Hi, I am new here, so... Hello All! My name is Mark and I am from California.
I have been looking around and was hoping to find some fiddle music or tab for some Old Crow songs.
Has any fiddle players transposed any of these songs? |

Hey Mark,
You're not the only one. I about threw my fiddle in the fire trying to figure what Ketch is doing.
Then I found the trick. Tune to open A. AEAE
Use the relative minor for a scale. F#m I think. ABCC#EF#
I learned Wagon Wheel so far. Plus bits of other tunes from that album and Eutaw.
Regards,
Mike in Carolina |

he usually has atleast two, sometimes three fiddles on stage, i know atleast one of them is AEAE. I like playing Wagon Wheel in G, cuz we can actually sing both parts then...Willie's range is amazing! |

Yeah, I noticed a number of fiddles up there at the Carborro show last night. I meant to talk some fiddle w/Ketch outside. But he looked all outta breath having just finished the show. Probably didn't want some fan jawing at him anyways.
Got a second fiddle I'm gonna string up in open G. GDGD
Same fingering as open A, just a different key.
Never could play the darn thing tuned to 5ths. |

I find it easier to get a "drone" note when tuned AEAE. Especially during the first 4 notes in the tune. I've got that open A ringing out.
I had a heck of a time getting it to sound right in standard tuning.
Are you fingering the drone or leaving it out altogether? |

fingering the drone on the first four notes? you mean the pick ups? i still have my open A string in standard tuning. isn't there a low G or two in the last phrase? how do handle that with your G tuned up to an A? |

I cover wagon wheel in GDAE. I use the A for the drone on the first notes. Sounds OK - it's not exactly what he does (I'm pretty sure he's tuned old-timey, AEAE, but that's too much of a pain if you only have one fiddle on stage) and nobody who's not a fiddle player notices the difference. |
