the way i wrote these out was how they sounded to me on the album. after giving your corrections a thought and the album another listen, here's how i believe they are sung. these would be my corrections.
tossed me 'round
now i'm walkin' HUNCH
----i can't hear an "ed" at the end of that so i stick with my original transcription----
uhhh would you sucker her up and take a punch
---- when i put the "a" there i meant "uhhhhhh" and he says "sucker her up"..i can hear the H.----
just uhhh leave me with a stack of them bills to pay
to shut the door when she been playing HARD
---- sounds like he isn't singing whore. there's a definate D on the end there---- |

whatever man. he's says HUNCH on the album. did he write the lyrics out with "hunched"? maybe...maybe not...but when he decided to sing that particular word he said HUNCH. i don't think i'm being unreasonable about this. it's just the way it is on the album. that's the whole point.
hunch...bunch vs. hunched bunch
maybe he liked the rhyme better without the "ed" so he decided to exclude it. good luck with your girl problems dude. i find it rediculous you are some what attacking me considering i spent the time to post lyrics and chords to these songs even before the album was made available to the general public so people could learn them. then i go back and listen to certain phrases people question at normal speeds then slowed down and post my findings...still i get grief from people like you. i even help anyone out that is having chord or arrangement issues because i want to help. cheers buddy...to being mulish |

jokey tones don't come across in print very well!
you are absolutely correct in hunch vs. -ed (didn't look at that one closely enough), but i think curtis is correct on "suck 'er" and "whore". i'll send a pm with what i think the discrepancies in lyric are, you can review and edit your original at your discretion - i'm not going to doubt the veracity of your chord decipherin', and I also thank you for your work and contribution in that regard. Please - do keep it up.

suck 'er up = 3 syllables
when i listen to it, it sounds like 5 syllables and not two.
sucker her up = 4
and where did the "h" sound come from? maybe he wrote it down that way but with 4 syllables how would you sing that...suck 'er 'er up? doesn't make much sense to me.
on the whore thing. there's definately a D sound at the end of it. so he sang it "whored"? playing hard makes more sense to me.
to each their own. send me your version. i'll look at it. when you write lyrics out on paper without really listening very precisely to what is exactly being sung on the album, you can definately make sense of whatever. maybe there was a slip up when it was sung. i don't know but i just go off of what i hear. when you slow something down even half speed and can hear differences in what people are saying makes more sense but it doesn't match up, what's one to do? |

i have heard another version where i can tell he said playing a whore, but on the album i'm pretty sure it's "playing hard" |

go back and listen to that line and count the syllables. maybe on other versions he does sing it suck 'er up but on the album he seemed to throw in an extra syllable. you guys need to stop peeking at the other version by molly.  |

i clearly hear 3 on the album "suck'er h'up" i think the "h" sound you refer to comes in as he's singing "up"... similar to other southernisms like h'ain't for ain't when you look at WPA interview transcriptions
the transition between lines (19 and 20 on dub's original transcription) is very quick, without pause... "to shut the door when she been playin' whore, I don't wanna see his rags piled on the floor" the "d" sound you are hearing is from the beginning of "don't", not the end of "whore" - the "I" (more correctly "uh") sound clearly prefaces the "d" sound of "don't"
"his rags piled on the floor" makes "playin' whore" the obvious child to me, but of course that's my interpretation - i think others will agree.
-perhaps the album was done so ambiguously as not to get an advisory warning.? i admit it is mighty difficult to decipher, but a hard listen should bring the results i came up with. (next post) |

nah..you've got it wrong. go get those ears cleaned. mr t is going to come after you when you're singing it your way in the shower.
it may be fast but it isn't that fast when you slow it down half speed. he does not sing I DON'T WANNA. that's clearly obvious. so that debunks your alternative D theory. watch out for mr t. i'm going to agree to disagree on this one.
i also find it interesting that if you go to google and type in: sucker her up and take a punch, it shows up in the npr description of an interview with ketch. |

i think you're right on the "i don' wanna" part -- i believe it's just "don' wanna" now...! funny enough, i can hear both "...hard, i wanna" and "whore, don' wanna" - if she's been playing hard (we can assume in the bedroom), why would he WANT to see dude's clothes on the floor?? i still think she's been playing whore and he DOESN'T want to see dude's clothes. if she has been been playing _______ (insert your choice), she should at least have the courtesy to shut the door so he can't see it. that's the message i'm getting.
after seeing the npr site, i begin to wonder about this one now... was that their transcribers who posted that or did OCMS supply them lyrics?? the words aren't spoken in the interview. i still swear i hear "sucker up" or "suck her up" i/o "sucker her up", even with fresh-cleaned ones...
if there's ever a definitive word, i'll have to owe you another one!! |
