| "Crazy" by Patsy Kline or Willie Nelson. Instead of the sad, tinkly piano sound think of a revved up, slightly pissed off version. If you look at the lyrics and forget the music it seems like it could have been written in that frame of mind. It would probably be very short or repetitive if you speed it up though. |

Just listened to "Rowdy Blues" by the Be Good Tanyas. Sounds a mite older than that though, and would suit the Old Crows down to the ground. Is it an old song?

Has anyone here heard of Me First and the Gimme Gimme's? I love their punk covers of country songs. "East Bound and Down" rocks and I think of THERODGE's avatar every time I listen to it! It's kinda the opposite of what were talkin about here but it's kinda fun. Another one is Old Number Seven's "El Paso". In fact other than that song I think they pretty much suck! |

East Bound and Down would be a crucial cover. Smokey & the Bandit (the original only) is up there as one of my all time favs. |

i'm a bit embarrassed because i don't know this but has "cash on the barrelhead" been done? not that it would be a strange cover, just a dang good one.

champagne n' reefer - muddy waters
ain't no more cane on the brazos - traditional (origin of this song is interesting. probably comes from "work" songs in the cane fields. bob dylan and the band have the most famous arrangement. jerry, janis, weir and danko did a great version of this on the train in festival express. sun volt also did a super job covering this tune.

I heard a song I thought that was right up their alley on WRVU once I reached Nashville.
Spoonful by Howlin' Wolf.
Might as well seeing how 80% of their songs are about drugs anyway. Might as well add it to the collection.
Gil or Willie could wail on the lyrics and Ketch could rip on the harp.
