I'll start a topic for the Hackensaws -- we get plenty of chatter around here about them, but I didn't find a single write-out for any of their songs...
This tune pretty much sums up a Hackensaw show - as fun to play as it is to dance to!

DANCE AROUND (Rob't St. Ours)

C....G....D....G (Pick these chords quickly and you'll soon figure your notes for the intro)

G...................C....................G..
Dance around, dance all around
...............C...........G................D.................................
Well dance up and down, gonna dance all 'round the town
G................................C..................G..
Dance around, get your feet up in the air
...............C................G............................D.......................
Like them people over there, there's folks a-dancin' ev'rywhere

[Chorus]
D........................................C...............G.....
Dancin' with the girls, that's a mighty fine thing
D.......................................C.........G....
You ain't a-gotta buy 'em no weddin' ring
D................................C...........G.......
Dance all night with whoever you please
............C..................G.............D................G.......
Then go home to your lover, get down on your knees
C..................G.............D................G.......
Home to your lover, get down on your knees

[Instr.] - (Run thru chords of verse and chorus)

Dance around, dance all around
Well dance up and down, gonna dance all 'round the town
Dance around, if there's a song that's in my mind
I guess i'll just dance it fine at the wealth of your time

[Chorus]

n/c..............................................
- I like to dance, honey how 'bout you?
- I like to dance, honey how 'bout you?
- I like to dance, honey how 'bout you?
- I like to dance, honey how 'bout you?

[Chorus] - ("Home to your lover..." 3x)

The catchy melody of this one is done picking around a D chord to a C, then D/C back to semi-D kind of thing -- once you pick it out it's real simple and sounds better than just strumming chords along to it

ALABAMA SHAMROCK (David Sickmen)

D................................................................................
Lately I’ve been going to a place I don’t like going through
..........C...............................................................................
Where I’m no good and I’m all wrong, I sing about it in this song
D.............................................................
Amarillo shamrock, the road is getting tighter
...C................................................
A story for today, a story for tomorrow
D............................................................
After building fires, and after burning bridges
.......C...................................................................................
The groom is on the doorstep, [set ?] simple you’ll never forget it

D..............................
Thank God for this pen
.................G................D.
Brighten, USA, is leaning in
...................................................
This film was shot on memory slides
......................G...............
In the Western Hemisphere
................D...............
Alabama’s getting near

Alabama sunrise, Oklahoma prairie
And every town’s claim to fame, none of this before I came
I’m back to tribal town, stressing the get-down *
And many birds I have seen, their song means nothing to me
Down in your soul mine, we’re in the Bible Belt
This is all I really know, it’s the best I’ve ever felt

Thank God for this pen
Brighten, USA, is leaning in
This film was shot on memory slides
In the Western Hemisphere
Alabama’s getting near

[Dobro, Mandolin runs]

[Repeat “Alabama sunrise…” on through, then "Thank God..." on through again, “Alabama’s getting near” 4x.]
*[Ferd sings “on tribal ground”]

I really like David's tunes. Do a rolling pick on these chords with your thumb and index and it sounds mighty good.

SMILIN' MUST MEAN SOMETHING (David Sickmen)

C........F..........C.............F........
Today, I had a close one
C........F..........C.............F........
Today, I saw it clear
C........F..........C.............F........
Today, I had a close one
C........F..................C.............F........
Today, I sensed that fear

(C--> F roll as above)
Yesterday, I walked alone
Yesterday, I walked in fear
Yesterday, I walked alone
Yesterday, I sensed that fear
Yesterday, I sensed that fear

Am................C.............Am..
I can feel you looking
................C............Dm..
I know you are
.........................F.........
I can’t say what’s [puzzlin'?] now
...........C.....F...................C...............F...
But my smiling must mean something
.....C......F.................C................F..
My smiling must mean something

(C--> F roll as above)
You tried to hold a hand
You tried to make it work
You tried to hold on to something
All that trying just left you hurt
All that trying just left you hurt
All that trying just left you hurt

Am...............C.............Am...
I can feel you looking
................C..............Dm...
I know you are
........................F..............
I can’t say what’s [puzzlin'?] now
............C......F...................C...............F....
But your smiling must mean something
.......C......F..................C................F....
Your smiling must mean something
.......C......F..................C................F....
Your smiling must mean something
.......C......F..................C................F....
Your smiling must mean something
.......C..(n/c....................................
Your smiling must mean something
..................................................)
Your smiling must mean something
C......F..................C................F.....
Smiling must mean something
C......F..................C................F.....
Smiling must mean something

A shiny dollar for anyone who fills in that blank in the chorus...

SUN’S WORK UNDONE (David Sickmen)

D.................................
What I want you to know
....G...............D..........
Is how much I love you
..G...................D...........
I place no one above you
.......................................
You’re always in my prayers

And on the day you were born
Something inside of me grew and
Something inside of me knew that
I had done the right thing

And you did what you did
You had your own reason
It was your season
I believe it was your spring

D..........C..................G.....
And the rains they did come
............D........................
Left the sun’s work undone
......C..............G..................D.......
The flowers are happy for the waiting
.........C..............G...............D...............................
And I knew in my heart, baby someday we would part
.....C..........G................D...........
For now, it’s worth all the changing

[Instr.]

Broomstraw fields
The mountains green and misty
It was our history
The songs that we were sung

And it did not go
The way that I’d prayed for
The way that I’d stayed for
‘Cause I said I would

[2x]
And the rains they did come
Left the sun’s work undone
The flowers are happy for the changing
And I knew in my heart, baby someday we would start [“part” second time]
For now, it’s worth all the waiting [3x second time]

Thanks for posting these Pittsy.

I always thought he was saying on "Your smile..."

I can feel you looking
I know you are
I can't say what's puzzling

and,

You tried to hold a hand,
You tried to make it work,
You tried to hold onto something...

BUT, could be having an "excuse me while I kiss this guy" moment.

As for "Alabama Shamrock" the lyrics are slightly different on the slower version that appears on "Love What You Do" than they are on the faster version from "Get Some." Por ejemplo: "After building fires, and after burning bridges..." and I could swear he's saying: "the broom is on the doorstep, said simple you'll never forget it..." but groom makes a lot more sense, because, well, brooms are usually pretty tight-lipped.

Anyway, all great songs.

Very Happy

I have a few possible corrections to this as well... but this is off the disk so maybe it is different in live shows.

After building fires and after burning bridges ???

The groom is on the doorstep, said [something] simple you’ll never forget it

Not sure about that "said something simple".... but I clearly hear said... and then this sorta 'thing'. Beats me - - - I am just glad I wasn't going crazy because I was sure it was Amarillo shamrock, but Scot kept saying Alabama because that is the title of the song!!

Cuervo - I can't tell if it's "puzzlin'" or not -- you get a shiny Tom Jefferson for the effort, regardless!
And as for the discrepancy in "Shamrock" I still can't say -- it's almost as if he says "s'that simple" - as in a contraction of "it's that simple". I need to hear this other version from Get Some -- which I can't seem to find anywhere around here - well, Plan 9's really the only shot in town.

Yeah, Kitty -- good thing you're pretty... Laughing Laughing Laughing and it WAS "building fires" - my mistake - at least you're not the only idiot 'round here.

Ruby Pearl.
It starts in G then to D then G then C then G C G C G D G.

The words of Jimmy Stelling so if this is wrong, I know why he's not touring anymore.

Wow this thread is old, but a great google find.

On "Sun's Work Undone", I'm pretty sure the chorus has A minor where you have C. That's the chord that the mando is picking around on.

Thanks, Jeff -- I tried it, sounds weird, but may be right - C sounds mo better to me. I'll inquire on this with the author next time I have an opportunity to do so.
