AIN’T NO ASH WILL BURN

G...............C.............D.......G...
I have seen snow that fell in May
........................C............D...........G...
And I have seen rain on a cloudless day
........................C...........D............Em.....
And some things they are bound to change
...................C.........D.........G.....
‘Cause there ain’t no ash will burn

..............C..........D...........G....
Love is a precious thing I’m told
........................C..........D.....G....
It burns just like West Virginia coal
...................C..........D..........Em..
But when the fire dies down its cold
...................C.........D.........G.....
‘Cause there ain’t no ash will burn

You say this life is not your lot
But I can’t be something that I’m not
And we can’t stoke a fire that we ain’t got
‘Cause there ain’t no ash will burn

Love is a precious thing I’m told
It burns just like West Virginia coal
But when the fire dies down its cold
‘Cause there ain’t no ash will burn

There comes a time in every life
When there are no more tears to cry
There must be some things left behind
‘Cause there ain’t no ash will burn

Love is a precious thing I’m told
It burns just like West Virginia coal
But when the fire dies down its cold
‘Cause there ain’t no ash will burn

“That’s a pretty one, ain’t it?”
Man, if you’re having a bad day, this one’ll keep ya from sticking that gun in yer mouth…

I love this song! I heard it on a 'Prairie Home Companion' show years ago. Wish OCMS would record it. Would love to hear their take on it.

Fiddle in this song is rural easy to pick up and saw along with. I play it in standard ?GDAE? tuning and that suffices. Such a lovely tune to sing.
