Originally a Bob Dylan tune, but I challenge you to find a better cover than what the boys used to do...
YOU AIN'T GOIN' NOWHERE
G...........................Am............
Clouds so swift, the rain fallin' in
C...................................G.............
Gonna see a movie called Gunga Din
................................................Am.............
Pack up your money, pull up your tent McGuinn
C........................G.....
You ain't goin' nowhere
G.................Am..............
Ooooowhee - ride me high,
....C..................................G............................
Tomorrow's the day that my bride's a gonna come
....................Am...............C.........................G....
Oh Lord, how we gonna fly down into the easy chair
Well Genghis Khan and his brother Don
They could not keep from keepin' on
We'll climb that bridge after it's gone
After we're way past it
Ooooowhee - ride me high,
Tomorrow's the day that my bride's a gonna come
Oh Lord, how we gonna fly down into the easy chair
Oh buy me a ring and a gun that sings
A flute that toots and a bee that stings
A sky that cries and a bird that flies
A fish that walks and a dog that talks
Ooooowhee - ride me high,
Tomorrow's the day that my bride's a gonna come
Oh Lord, how we gonna fly down into the easy chair
I don't care how many letters they sent
'Cause mornin' came and mornin' went
Pack up your suitcase and pick up your tent
Oh, you ain't goin' nowhere
Ooooowhee - ride me high,
Tomorrow's the day that my bride's a gonna come
Oh Lord, how we gonna fly down into the easy chair
Ooooowhee - ride me high,
Tomorrow's the day that my bride's a gonna come
Oh Lord, how we gonna fly down into the easy chair
It don't get no better than the Old Crows doin' Dylan... |

speakin' of paddlin' -- i'm a real nut for whitewater, gitjoe...
did you ever hear the Dylan "Basement Tape" version of this one???
Now look here dear soup
You best feed the cats
The cats need feedin'
And you're the one to do it
Get your hat
Feed the cats
You ain't goin' nowhere
Oh, oh! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day my bride's gonna come
Ooowhee how we gonna sit
Down in the easy chair
Look here you bunch of basement noise
You ain't no punchin' bag
I seen you walkin' out there
And you're the one to do it
Pick up your nose, you canary
You ain't goin' nowhere
Oh, oh! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day my bride's gonna come
Ooowhee how we gonna sit
Down in the easy chair
Just pick up that oilcloth
Cram it in the corn
I don't care if your name is Michael
You're gonna need some boards
Get your lunch, you foreign (bebber?)
You ain't goin' nowhere
Oh, oh! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day my bride's gonna come
Ooowhee how we gonna sit
Down in the easy chair
Now look here you pile of money
You best go off there and find a file
I seen you out there beatin' on your hammer
You ain't no head of lettuce
Feed that buzzard
Lay him on the rug
You ain't goin' nowhere
Oh, oh! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day my bride's gonna come
Ooowhee how we gonna sit
Down in the easy chair
Genius or mental illness?? It's Bob Dylan! |

Pittsy,
doesn't Bob refrerence Roger McGuinn in one of the Basement Tape versions because apparantly Roger messed up one of the lyrics when the Byrds covered it? |

check out the story at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Ain't_Goin'_Nowhere
Dang URL wouldn't work due to the apostrophes - so highlight that whole thing and copy and paste it
He referenced McGuinn in the version he cut in '71. Apparently the version I posted above with weird lyric was an alternate take. I just have some odds and ends from the Basement Tapes - i'll get a full copy one of these days... |

YOU AIN'T GOIN' NOWHERE
I just heard the Glen Hansard/Markéta Irglová cover of this great tune. What fine memories this one brings back. 'tucky's right! |

"Tree With Roots" has some great stuff; nearly all of the Big Pink recordings, I believe. Definitely worth exploring, 'Tucky. |
