Is this traditional? or who did it first? I tried finding info but was unlucky.

I think this is one of the songs that was given to Dock Boggs to sing by his A&R Man (nowadays we call 'em "producers"). Dock set it to a familiar melody from some of his other records.

That was one of the records he released on the Lonesome Ace label, whose motto was "Without a Yodel". I don't think it released much else in its' short existence.

I agree w/ the vocals comment, and they way willie and ketch harmonize is amazing! They have progressed so well!

This is Such A AMAZAING SONG!!!

I can't get it out of my mind, and yes about the vocal comment I was wondering the exact same thing. They way Willie sings in this songs is just heart melting, his heart and soul really went into that song.

I really want to know about the origins of the Trials and Troubles EP, when and where did it come out???

I have it, and think that and the live recorded cd are two of there best.

that opening line is a heartbreaker for sure.

for the last few months if i'm singing an old crow song then there's a fifty fifty chance that i'm singing "Troubles up and down that road"
