Hey folks,
I started training last wednesday to be a DJ on Vanderbilt's college radio station WRVU. I'm really excited about it! I'm going to be on there every Wednesday night from Midnight to 2 AM cst (thursday morning) interning on my buddy Kaz's radio show the Insomniac Motel. I should have my own show this Summer! I'll be a one or two hour show every week.
Last week, Kaz had me pretty busy right out the gate. I got to pick four songs and read four PSA's. Here's the songs I picked:
Tennessee Jed - Levon Helm
Monkey & the Engineer - Dave Rawling Machine
Oklahoma City Women Blues (Vera Cruz) - The Deep Vibration
Bulletproof - La Roux
His show doesnt have a format, so it's a pretty randomn selection of tunes, just the way I like it.
Tune in at wrvu.org

Yeah, cool deal Rodge! I used to listen to 91 a lot, but the reception is pretty sporadic 'round here since we have a local station near that on the dial now. Good luck with the show! |

I saw Rodge on my computer last night. Nice mix, from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Hesitation Blues, but it was hard to go to sleep thinking about Rodge's coccyx. |

Merlin, Students Faculty and community folks can DJ at WRVU. Recently there has been a huge scandal about the community DJ's... before WRVU had about 50 community dj's but recently put a 25 person cap which is alot of BS. But luckily, I'm considered faculty and don't take up any of those slots. Read more about it HERE.
Hopefully, I'll have my own show this summer. If so, I plan on having some bands come in for live performances and what have ye! |

Here's what I picked out last week:
James Brown - Get Up Offa That Thing
Dave Rawlings Machine - Ruby
The Pogues - Dirty Old Town
We ended the show early because Kaz was wanting to go out and drink more for St. Patty's day.
Make sure to TUNE IN tonight at Midnight CST! |

Last night Kaz did an hour and thirty minutes of circa 1991 dance vinyl. Think C+C Music Factory, haha. He's throw some party this Friday where dj's only spin vinyl and leave their laptops at home so he wanted to do the same last night and only use the wheels of steel. Only thing is, is he didn't bring any records and had to grab from our unorganized archive of records and pick what ever he could find.
I got to run the show for the last thirty minutes and pick from the required stack of cd's to choose from. Every show we have to play two local artists and six rotation artists. Here's what I played:
The Features - Baby's Hammer
The XX - Crystalised
The Avett Brothers - Laundry Room
Rita J - No Regrets
Dave Rawlings Machine - Monkey and the Engineer
Phoenix - Lisztomania
Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man
Thanks to all that endured the fazzy early 1990's underground dance music |
