First off, I have been more entertained in the last five minutes reading the postings on this site than the entirety of my existence. And that's a lie that's close to the truth.
Now then, I guess Critter's still involved...anybody know the details? He's always been my favorite Crow, and I'm somewhat averse to change. |

Ketch's interview I posted earlier today reminded me that Critter plays Tejano accordian. Maybe we should be studying the covers of Norteno/Tejano CDs? (Wink.)
Edit: Before someone corrects me, I should say that "accordion" is the preferred spelling. Just maybe it's the only correct spelling? |

This is the most active/interactive board I've ever posted upon. Y'all are really on the ball!
I did read (back in 2000) a Moutain Xpress article about that Tejano Accordian goodness. Well, well.
I'll check that interview too. |

Critter gets a couple mentions in that article. Nice.
Man, I wouldn't mind seeing the guys flirt with the Tex Mex more often. They've done Deportee, Ben Ward's Tune, and there's that youtube clip of Ketch and Critter doing the Flaco Jimenez number. |

But you've seen the Austin City Limits footage, haven't you? It shouldn't be missed! |

Whenever introducing a friend to the band I like to show them "Fall On My Knees" and "Gospel Plow" from ACL. So good. |

Critter was the first guy from the band I met. I had never seen Old Crow, but had been listening to BIW and Eutaw for a couple of months. I looked 'em up on Al Gore's internets and saw that they were playing a show in KY, so the wife and I drove up to see them. Early in the day while some other bands were playing, I kept seeing this guy with big muttonchop sideburns walking around. I told my wife "that guy looks familiar. Do we know him?" She didn't know either. After a while it hit me- that's the banjo player from Old Crow! The next time he came through I spoke to him and he seemed like a really nice guy- just talking like anybody else.
It was only later (like, the sold-out Ryman show in '07) that I actually realized how popular these guys were amongst real music fans. That made him just hangin' out talking to a stranger quite a bit more special to me.
Good people, each one. |

This was't Critter but along the same lines. At Jubilee Jam before the boys went on, Ketch was standing by the stage and a few buddies and I went over to talk to him. We just talked about Critter, and some of there songs, and I pulled out my bag of chewing tobacco, Ketch eyed it and asked me what kind it was. I told him and he said give me a plug of it. It was the coolest thing that had ever happened to me. A band member asking me for a chaw! Like Chigger said "good people, each one!!" |

DeanRogers: You are a genius. Hopefully someone gets that to Critter...
Maybe some sirens loved him up and turned him into a horny toad. We can only hope...for his sake. |

So does anyone really know what happened to Critter? Is he done for good or will he back at some point? I have been wondering this for a long time, and I stumbled across this site while trying to figure it out but I still haven't seen a straight answer on what happened. |

map, Critter is pursuing further education and is unlikely to tour anytime soon with the boys. He did contribute vocals to the last album, however, and he and Ketch and I'm sure all the others in the band remain good friends. There is talk that the boys will be recording again soon, so we can hope that we'll hear some more of Critter. |

Like everyone else I miss Crit too and Gil is a pretty down home guy. On the official website, there are a few promo press kit posters with a sixth guy. Is that Cory Younts with a new look or some other person? It doesnt look like Justin Townes Earl but I guess it could be him too. Anybody have any dirt? |

I saw the youtube video of OCMS at the Ryman on NYE. loved the fact that Critter was back with them. Does anybody know if that was a one time thing or is there any news of him making a return soon? |

george, I suspect that it was a special occasion, though I wouldn't be surprised to hear Critter's harmonies on some of the tracks of the new album. |
