I just got the most recent mailing from Pokey and he had some big news that can be shared now. He was telling me about this at the 4th of July show, but said to keep it on the downlow for a while. Now the cat is out of the bag! Here 'tis-
"the new Pokey LaFarge & the South City Three album Riverboat Soul will be released on October 18th. You will be able to buy it online at www.pokeylafarge.net It features 11 new originals and 3 tradtional tunes from the jug band/songster idiom. 14 tunes in all featuring very special guests Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show) and Tommy Oliviero (Bawn in the Mash)." |

Yeah! A new Pokey LaFarge CD! I have been listening to Pokey for years and finally saw him when he opened for the Felice Brothers this June. Hopefully I'll get some transportation and lodging squared away so I can see him again at Bristol Rhythm and Roots in a couple weeks. |

Yeah, I'm lookin' forward to catching him in either Chattanooga or Nashville around the end of this month. I'll try to find out what song Ketch is singing with him on the album. Reckon a person might get to see a suprise guest in Nashvegas? I'll have to check tour dates for both of them... |

Lack of OCMS over here, but certainly no lack of other great music!
Pokey and the boys were awesome at Celtic Connections and we ventured down to England to see them again. They played this place in the middle of nowhere and blew the crowd away! I think they got a lot of new fans over here.
It was great seeing Pokey with the band. He was fab when he was over here on his own last summer, but I really like what the band is adding to the sound.
Chigger wrote: I'll try to find out what song Ketch is singing with him on the album.
He's doing the harmony vocals on "Old Black Dog" and plays the fiddle on it too as well as on "Won't Make Love at All" and "Bag of Bones".
Great album!

I'm still around Just so busy at work...
Aye, Woody's coming!! Yay! Both him and Pokey have Brookfield Knights as their agent over here, and that guy's based just outside of Paisley, so they all seem to tour Scotland quite a lot. Lucky me Not sure why everyone keeps missing out Ireland though. You should plan a trip across, Stu!!
Oh, and some pictures of the first of the Celtic Connections gigs and also some of The Blue Coconut Club if anyone's interested. |

Stu - Woody may not be coming to Ireland, but Pokey and the boys are playing the Open House Festival in Belfast some time between 10th and 12th of September!
Of course I'm not sure how far you are from Belfast, but at least it's the same island... Worth the trip I'd say.... |

I was at the show and had a blast. Great to finally hear pokey in person! Such a great deal, too! 10$ to get in, 5$ for fried chicken and best biscuits in the world, 1.50$ for a Dr.Enuf! Can't beat that deal. Great night. Thanks for the heads up, Merlin! |
