Hi all!

I'm about to buy a new banjo (openback), and I wanted to know what maker/model of banjos do the crows use. I know by the liner notes of OCMS that Critter played a Gibson RB-100 (but a Gibson is far too expensive for me!), but I don't know about Gill. I've seen in the promotional poster featured on their site that it's got a star in the middle of the peghead, but there are many banjos like that. Also, I can't see any detail 'bout the maker on the banjos Gill's using on Live at the Orange Peel and Tennessee Theatre.

Does any of you know the maker and/or model?

I really love the sound of those banjos, and they're beautiful, classical banjos, with no weird drawings on the fretboard or the peghead (I kinda hate that!).

Thanks y'all!

I think you'll find the Gibson inexpensive when compared to the Stelling.

They're using a Stelling?

Yes, the banjos that Gill plays are Stellings. At one point my brain knew what make Ketch's banjo is, but that piece of information is stuck way back in the inaccessible regions at the moment. I'm sure someone else around here knows though.

I've just looked at the Stelling website and I've seen that they only have one openback banjo, and it doesn't look like the one Gill's using in the live videos.
The resonators look like the Stelling models, but not the openbacks. Does anyone know the maker of the openback banjos? I'm interested in an openback.

Well. I don't know then. Maybe these can help you identify it in your search.

Ah, yes. I didn't catch that "open-back" qualifier the first time. Pardon.

This is from the liner notes of OCMS: "Ketch Secor plays Magini and Klingenthal fiddles and used Thomastik Precision strings. He plays Lee Osker harps and a Bart Reiter banjo courtesy of W. Rasmussen.

Now, going on the ASSumption that Gill might have picked up the same make of banjo as the old one that Ketch has (the one with the green sticker on it, can see it in my pics near the bottom of this post, I visited Reiter banjo's website. Looks like there's a few models that it COULD be, but the 'Standard' model at this link looks to have the most similar peghead shape to me.
