Hum - - as far as I can tell we don't have a "Social Media" thread anywheres around here. And I am sure you all saw it (or those on Facebook anyways). A couple of days ago I got a message that popped up saying Old Crow had updated their info.... and it was the removal of Willie Watson. By looking at 'fan' comments... only one person seemed to notice the change (besides folks around these parts). In general all the comments are like Come play in XXXX... I luv you.... Wagon Wheel rocks!
Few folks commenting on the missing of the Ryman show. I would have to vote for that, too. Sure missed being at the Ryman with y'all this year. Was always a special time for sure. |

I can vouch for that, Tucky, as good as it was to see ya. (With bonus Mallards in my living room.)
I noticed the facebook Old Crow fans totally missed the bad news. I suspect they'll be some outcry, but it's a pretty subtle way to telling. I might not have seen it for a long while... |

My NYE was about as lame as they come. Ringing in the New Year with Lynyrd Skynryd playing Freebird... |

Ha Ha Ha! I KNEW you'd have to go & see the new music note (almost) drop! At least every redneck from every concert I've ever been to was happy to hear the NYE finale! |

So why don't they just call it The Ketch Secor Band and get over with?
No, that's mean, and maybe Critter's coming back, and maybe it's just temporary or a ploy to get his ass in the to studio to finish some overdubs, but....For me, I'm not 100% sure that it's OCMS without Willie. I'm just gut-punched right now. I found out earlier in the day that a friend had died, and now.....
I feel like cursing, often and loudly. |

So sorry to hear about your loss, bruceff... going through something similar here. Curse as loud as ya wanna... then enjoy the memories.
I am also curious what the outcome will be. The interview that was recently posted from Gill said he was moving to London... yet he is still listed as a member. That is going to make touring difficult for sure. Critter and Cory together cannot replace Willie. As a BAND they have not released any 2012 tour dates... just Ketch and Critter. Will be interesting to hear the reports about who else is joining them on stage as that might give a clue to what the future holds. |

This just isn't right, people.
Can't this be one of those terrible movies where sassy teens kidnap their parents and lock them up so they reconcile? Except with the Old Crow?
What did we DO before epic NYE Ryman shows? I know what I did. Sat on the damn couch. |

If Willie is not with 'em, I can't imagine how they would even perform half of the repertoire. NOBODY is gonna replace his vocals. |

I'm sure they will find some way to play those songs, at least some of them.
The trick will be to enjoy what is without crying over what was. |

If they can find somebody who can do this-

I'll travel half-way across the country to see them again. |

This. Is NOT good news :(
I don't often check their FB page, because of all the "Come play in XXXX... I luv you.... Wagon Wheel rocks" posts Kitty mentioned, so hadn't seen this.
Really can't imagine Old Crow without Willie. Can't imagine who could possibly fill in and sing the songs the way he does. |

If the Crow future is to be Willie-free, I am so, so deeply thankful that I flew to Missouri to see them in Columbia, Kansas City and Wichita.

Well I guess it's kind of official now since Willie (or whomever is running it for him) posted on his facebook page a few hours ago:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Willie-Watson/200793639978020
Quote: Old Crow Medicine Show hasn't made a public statement yet, but Willie is no longer with that band. He's doing great and taking part in other projects, including his own. We'll keep you all updated as projects unfold. We appreciate your support! Thank you!
Rodge - would you say this part of the thread deserves it's own Topic? |

From crowmedicine.com,
Quote: We are happy to announce that one of the original founding member’s, Critter Fuqua, is back in the band. Critter has written and recorded some of Old Crow’s classic songs, including “Take ‘em Away”, “James River Blues”, “Big Time In The Jungle”, and “New Virginia Creeper”.
Old Crow Medicine Show has decided to part ways with Willie Watson. They wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
The band has recorded a new album for ATO Records which will be released in 2012. |

dropped. Just saw Critter back in the band...and i was like "Sweet Lord thank you!" Then i read, Willie is out and i was like "Sweet lord NOOOOO!".
Didn't think i could feel that high and low in the same moment. No offense but as a guitar player and high harmony singer, Willie is gonna be missed.
I hate to see that evening sun go down...
new meaning attached to that one now.
Sorry for the bummin' guys. |

Do y'all think Critter is going to come in as rhythm guitarist? I'm looking at the bio section and that's his third instrument listed, after slide and banjo. I wonder if we'll be seeing a lot more instrument trading during shows from now on.
Which also gets me wondering how much touring we will actually see. (Or how little?) |

"Old Crow Medicine Show has decided to part ways with Willie Watson."
Is it just me or does this sound like fired/kicked out? I'm sensing some tension on Willie's facebook page. I hope he's ok, |

I'm not sure that Willie actually administers that Facebook page. The way that this...
Here's that "public statement" we were wondering about. As the administrator and biggest fan I'm actually blocked from making comments on the Old Crow Medicine Show facebook page. But nothing can stop YOU from spreading the good word of a great musician with a timeless voice.
is worded tells me that the page was made and is run by a fan. I'm sure things are tough on both sides of the spit, as it is when any sort of relationship changes drastically, but I imagine that all the guys are handling it as professionally as they possibly can in public venues. |
