WOODY GUTHRIE'S AMERICA
I've traveled all around this land about 24 years
I've traveled all around this land about 24 years
I've traveled all around this land about 24 years
To find out where I want to live
I went down to the station to sing my little song
I went down to the station to sing my little song
And the officer told me boy you best be moving on
To find out where I want to live
Went up to the country to get some peace of mind
Went up to the country to just to get some of mind
Everywhere around me had No Tresspassing Signs
To find out where I want to live
I've traveled all around this land about 24 years
I've traveled all around this land about 24 years
I've traveled all around this land about 24 years
To find out where I want to live
Volunteered my time to support a candiate for peace
Volunteered my time to support a candiate for peace
Now I'm standing in under water and it's almost neck deep
To find out where I want to live
And I keep on walking til the road's underneath my shoes
And I keep on walking til the road's underneath my shoes
I get up the crossraods and I know which one I'll choose
Cause I found out where I want to live
I want to live in Woody Guthrie's America
I want to live in Woody Guthrie's America
I want to live in Woody Guthrie's America
Thet's where I'l lay my head and call it home |

100 GREENBACK DOLLAR BILLS
Grab your purse we're heading down the road
Where the whisper winds will blow away your load
One hundered years of history's calling
And I can't wait til night has fallen
To bring me what I'm wantin'
100 greenback dollar bills
A little tin box for your pills
We're going up above the hills my darling
A knife to cut the bottle cork
A raincoat(?) keeps away the smoke(?)
I took the weekend off of work my darling
I don't know how much better it's gonna get
You said you can taste the whiskey in your cigarette
if there's one thing I know for certain
whiskey takes away the hurtin'
Well take my hand and put it in your hand
100 greenback dollar bills
A little tin box for your pills
We're going up above the hills my darling
A knife to cut the bottle cork
A raincoat(?) keeps away the smoke(?)
I took the weekend off of work my darling
So let this fire burn on through the night
Write up your ma write up your pa
Tell em about out country fight
You got your purse I got my hat
We might not ever make it back
That's good with me if it's good with you
100 greenback dollar bills
A little tin box for your pills
We're going up above the hills my darling
A knife to cut the bottle cork
A raincoat(?) keeps away the smoke(?)
I took the weekend off of work now darling
lala lala lala...... |

ON THAT DAY
There will be fire on the hill
There will be no devil for the kill
There will be no warning sign
Just the clothes upon a line
On that Day
There will be no secret battle cry
No bright illumination from the sky
No savior resurrection
March in that slow procession
On that day
There will no gathering of hands
As the fiddler strays from the band
and the enemy you'll see
might have a face like you are me
On that day
And the thread will snap
And the seam will show
and the mercury has nowhere left to go
So deconstruct the fences
and pay down the old expenses
All for that day |

WHEN MY NAME IS SPOKEN
It will roll in from the east like a ships return from sea
It will ring out from the west across golden valleys
Rising up from the south that's where I want to be
If someone is calling me
When my name is spoken I will answer
When my name is spoken I will answer
I will lay down my worries and my......
I ain't got no friend like you
It's whispered and rumbling where raging waters flow
It's hidden in the shadow where hungry men do go
I've seen it laid before me like an angel in the snow
When someone is calling me
When my name is spoken I will answer
When my name is spoken I will answer
I will lay down my worries and my......
I ain't got no friend like you
Have you listened with your ear pressed frimly to the ground
And have you lifted up your head to hear the emanating sound
Have you really given thought to all the precious things you found
Cause someone is calling you
When my name is spoken I will answer
When my name is spoken I will answer
I will lay down my worries and my......
I ain't got no friend like you
no I ain't got no friend like you |

"raincoat keeps away the storm" would make sense but I'm not sure if that's what I hear. |

so basically all you need to know is D, C, and G right?
Easy enough
i bought on of the songbooks, but it only has 4 or 5 songs...and couple of them i have never heard. |

Put The Back-seat Down is in E
but i reckon it's played with a capo on 4 using C, F and G shapes
C Come on down the broken stair
take the F curler from your hair
de- G -pression's all around
But I don't C care
You're all dressed up like on New Year's Day
the F world is changed so they say
G it don't change me feeling this C way
Let the G banjo play
let it C wash your sins away C7
F swing and turn and C sing
hey hey G hey G7
put the C back-seat down throw your G arms around
when the hammer rings
it don't C mean a thing
coz all my money's gone
so put your G good dress on
put the back-seat down we're going down F down C down
so hand me down your busted jeans
they're sitting around here too damn clean
i don't really like
the way that seems
take the glasses from your eyes
take your prayers out of the sky
the devil wears a familiar disguise
Let the banjo play .... |

I just came back to finally print up these lead sheets for myself.
BTW your Atomic Holiness... You picked the exact 4 songs I wanted to transcribe anyway, and saved me the trouble of typing out all the words to do it. Thanks. |

Yup! most certainly is stork. you can hear it on the new album.
There's a lyric sheet in the new CD..it's the size of an LP and says Side 1 and Side 2, so I imagine it will also be the same insert in the vinyl release.
Anyone want to transcribe any of the other songs? |

Leave your troubles, troubles at the gate
don't let history lie to you and tell you it's too late
The other side is sweeter with the freedom from the weight
You better leave your troubles at the gate
When that stormy winter passes and the snow return to see
On that misty horizon when you finally can see
That land you never thought about but always knew was there
You better leave yeah, you better leave
You can study all the train tracks like the lines inside your hand
You can travel many places underneath the land
But when that tunnel finally opens and the tracks begin to rise
You better leave, yeah, you better leave
chorus
Well you know the time is right just like waves crashing on the shore
So my friend don't force it all you will be lost and nothing more
But when your hand is finally fixed upon the knob on that great door
You better leave, yeah, you better leave
chorus
Oh! Sir I cannot prophesise what's fixed up in the sky
And the only gate I ever knew resides inside my mind
But trouble is a cancer and like a fool I'm 'fraid I'll die
When I leave, ah, when I leave
chorus |
