Just one more bit of depressing news involving the music that I love. First the OHMS hiatus, then Jesse Cobb, the mandolin player for the Infamous Stringdusters abruptly leaves them, and now Baby J is gone from the Hackensaws. I hear he's wanting to spend more time with his family. It won't be the same without hearing his smoking version of Gospel Plow. Hell, even the Cherryholmes family all went their separate ways. Oh well, nothing ever stays the same forever I guess. Just kind of a bummer. I'm done venting now & I'll still be thankful for any good live picking that I get the chance to see.
PS... Not that I'm a Cherryholmes enthusiast, just grasping for examples to bitch about. |

I empathized right up until you said "Hell Even CherryHolmes Family went their own seperate ways"... why is this a point of concern?
Edit - Ha, I posted that reply without even finishing reading your post, when you denied Cherryholmes before the rooster crowd thrice!!!! |

Baby J will be missed indeed, but it makes me very happy that Shiner's joined up with them again
In Kansas City, MO the other day. |

Billy - I only found out by chance too; I happened upon a recent picture of them with Shiner in it. I thought he was just sitting in with them again, but I checked on their FB page, and he's listed again as a current member
Sorry you missed the show!! Hopefully, they'll play round your neck of the woods again soon. Seem to be touring more again.
They're coming to England in June, so I'm hoping they'll either come up to Scotland as well, or play somewhere that I can get to over a weekend. Fingers crossed... |

They haven't been the best at getting the word out lately. I missed them last time they were in Nashville and I usually have my ear to the ground pretty good. |

Not sure what the hell is going on, but Shawn Galbraith just posted this on his facebook account:
Shawn Galbraith
Well, it's been over a week, now, so I find it only fair to inform my friends and family who may or may not get my feed here that I have been fired via email by David Sickmen and the "New(ish)" Hackensaw "Boys" ...I had a good run and a fun time, on to new things and stuff...& please, no pity is necessary, I'm happy, relieved, free, and refreshed... |

Yes, I was just coming here to see if anyone knew what was going on?
A post went up on their FB page too just a wee while ago, basically saying "Goodbye Shawn", but that seems to have been deleted again.
Not sure what's up there ... |

That sucks. Shawn was awesome. Who's gonna play banjo now? I swear they are the Wu-Tang Clan of Old Time, haha.
Bugs, who should I email about getting them on da radio over here? I emailed Ward yesterday but he hasn't got back to me yet. They have a show over here next Wednesday. Gonna try to get em in. |

Ward is probably your best bet. Or David. The only one left I know well is Ferd and he never gets back to anyone!!! hahaha! I think we may go to Ferd's Friday this weekend I'm not sure if he will be there or not. If he is I will give him your info. |

So that means that the last time I saw them.. no Rob, no Baby J, no Shawn. The lineup was David on guitar, Ward taking mandolin duties and guitar sometimes, Ferd on the fiddle, IDK on the bass, Morgan O'kane on the banjo, Zeke Healey on the slide. |

i don't think Ferd is going to be there. They are supposed to play in Richmond on Friday.
Of course at this point, I'm not even sure if he is still in the band, so he may be there! |

I think at the time Shawn still had posting rights on the the HB page. I think the messages were from him.
Seems like they have taken all mentions of Shawn's departure down. |

Shawn is rumoured to be playing with Woody Pines in Boone, tonight. According to Woody!
Cool that I can just say 'Boone' and everyone knows where we're at! |

Saw em friday at the national. The national is far from my favorite venue. Its just not personal enough for me - too much distance amongst other things. Larger venue than what was needed to supply the crowd.
Line-up: Ben(Bass), Brian (percussions), Rob(mando/banjo), Sickman (guitar), Ward(guitar)
Dont know the setlist but apparently its the first time in a while that they actually made one according to Sickman.
Opened with Cant Catch Me proceded by End Times and then I cant recall the order or every song...
Keep it simple, Miner, Spring Fruit, Shamrock, Kiss you down there. New version of Parking Lot song w/out Rob. Sickman sang one I'd never heard but it was about doing naughty things to a girl named ?norah lee? - kinda ominous. Ferd sang a one I never heard and I believe he also played Ezicks Farewell.
Different gig for real. It seems to me like the curremt arrangement of the band "got nothin to loose". A little looser of a bunch. For example, Sickman was poking jokes at a few of them being on mushrooms haha. I dont recall any of that the past few years I saw em - not to say it never happended but Rob and Jesse have a family to foster. Yah know? Anyway they seemed to dabble in a few more old timey tunes - I can recite names but those particular numbers had the vibe and storyline. Seemed like Sickman and Ferd took most the attention and exchanged most words with the audiance which is a little different than before. Different band, differnet mixture of personality, energy was still there but without a hard drivin banjo and wackin mando that Shawn and Rob brought then maybe the energy deciple may drop a notch. New guy on bass, ben, looked like he's still working on learnin the lyrics - no harmonica that I saw either. Definitely interested in hearing their next album to offer.
Nonetheless, I'ma still follow these fellas for what they are. What they do. And I have this attachment to their historical name and constituents. |

They call it a Charismo.
There's a music store in knoxville that makes and sells them. Basically it's hubcaps, cans. washboards, bells, and leather straps all held together with guitar strings. |

Leroy Troy plays something similar... he calls it his "Agitator", with good reason. |
