Where can I find audio clips of these songs?

I particularly like Dr. Train and Dust To Dust.

as far as the tavern goes - i'm thinking mere as in mother. mother machie or michie. that makes sense. i'm preferring machie over michie on pronunciation alone.

I just received my New Brunswick travel guide in the mail and guess what, there's a whole section on the Miramichi River area. Very Happy

I leave Sunday for three weeks of solo camping/hiking in this area. I'm sure I'll be singing this song to myself quite a bit. Good to know the lyrics!

Just acquired a guitar and taught myself to play it. I'd like to start attempting Acadian Coast but I'm not good enough yet to figure out the chords on my own. Anyone already know?

QUEBECOIS

Well I met ya in the bar down in old St. Ours
The snow was a-creepin’ steady
And out in the street the ice was thick as sheets
And the snow was blowin’ heavy
Across the bound’ry in Franklin County
Haulin’ some wood from down east
Headin’ up to Ottawa my brakes gave out
And I had to push on my feet

Oh, you black-haired Quebecois, let me be your beau Francois
Ce soir, to-night, al-right
Oh, what you doin’ way up here, way across la frontiere
Ce soir, to-night, al-right

I’s a worn-out Yank with an empty tank
When I seen that sign through the snow
It was a little bar called L’Eglise St. Ours
So I figured I had to go
I walked on in and I seen ya grin
And I said “Bon soir, ma belle”
I bought ‘er a drink and I started to think
That she might have a story to tell

Listening to the song as played on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR5m6RQ-yZs I hear a few differences, mainly "the snow was fallin' heavy" and "the cold was blowin' steady." I also hear "it was either the bar or l'eglise St Ours," which makes a bit more sense to me; his two options for shelter were the bar or the church (eglise). Also, they sing the first two verses before launching into the chorus. They seem to have a lot of lyrical fluidity in general, so these little things probably vary considerably from show to show.

I'm quite confused about the whole "beau François" line, as I have never heard of a beau François (and google hasn't really, either, besides some old French made-for-TV film set in Revolutionary France).

She said “Je m’appelle petite Jouelle,
Je suis de Trois Rivieres,
Et tu est d’ou mon petite chou-chou?”
Je ne connais pas, mon cher
My truck broke down eight miles from town
And my French it ain’t that good
But I like your smile, it’s worth all the miles
That I spent a-haulin’ that wood

Couple small French spelling notes, the third line should read "Et tu es d'ou, mon petit chou-chou," a couple of silent letters are misplaced there.

Also, someone should tell them that they're singing the song to a dude... "mon cher" and "quebecois" are both male; it would be "ma chere" and "quebecoise." Plus, the correct way to say "I don't know" in this instance would be "Je ne sais pas," not "je ne connais pas." Then again, he does say his french ain't too good, and what better way to phrase "I don't know" than to mis-speak...

My heart was on my sleeve, I was ‘bout ready to leave
When this stranger he walks through the door
He said “Quesque tu fait, avec ma fille?”
And my heart was lying on the floor
Well my wounds were licked, and the beer was kicked
It was time to get over this
I walked outside and I thumbed me a ride
And she came up and gave me a kiss

Couple more little French spelling things- the third line should read "Qu'est-ce que tu fais." Hope I'm not coming off as nitpicky, I just wanted to make sure everything's in order...

As for the other French tune in the video, here's the lyrics and a translation:

J'AI VU LE LOUP, LE RENARD, ET LA BELETTE

J'ai vu le loup, le renard, et la belette
J'ai vu le loup, le renard dansaient

Les ai vus tappaient les mains
Les ai vus tappaient les pieds

Les ai vus tous s'embrassant
Les ai vus tous s'caressaient

Les ai vus avec un enfant
Merci bon Dieu c’était pas le mien

-------------------------------------------

I saw the wolf, the fox, and the weasel
I saw the wolf, the fox dancing

I saw them tap their hands
I saw them tap their feet

I saw them embracing each other
I saw them caressing each other

I saw them with a child
Thank you, good God, it's not mine

A great tune, and I share his love of Dewey Balfa. Do any of you know if they've ever played a tune called "Parlez-nous à boire, ne pas de marriage" (let's talk about drinking, not about marriage)? The Balfa Brothers did a great version of it, and it seems like it'd be up the boys' alley subject matter-wise...

PS: Anyone know the song at about 22.00 about "standing by the grave of a dearly departed friend?" I assume that's the name of the song, but have they played it a lot, etc.? I like it.

They played it the couple times I saw K&C back around New Years. It's a great song.
