Today, Old Crow Medicine Show are excited to release their new EP Carry Me Back To Virginia. The EP features three songs, including "Carry Me Back To Virginia" which is being shipped to Country radio this week. The other two tracks are a newly recorded version of “Ain't It Enough”, and a cover of the No. 1 hit Alabama song “Dixieland Delight.” This EP is available digitally at iTunes, Amazon, and all other digital music outlets. The boys have covered my favorite Alabama song. How much better does a day get. |

Those b-sides are not their best work. The contrast between the two versions of "Ain't It Enough" shows how much Willie's voice may be missed on future studio recordings. Even the faithful rendition of "Dixieland Delight" comes off kind of sleepy to me. Pretty uninspired.
The title track is still terrific, though. Hopefully it'll get some play. |

Ketch is pretty animated live, but his recorded vocals can sound kind of lazy. I'm thinking especially about some of the TP tracks, and I think it really comes out on slower stuff. I like him singing it live and on Marty Stuart, etc., but I agree that the newly recorded version isn't as nice as the album. I think Willie's voice will possibly be missed most on those slow country numbers, where he could really bring that high lonesome sound. |
