from gillians FB page:

‎"On Sunday, July 18th at midnight, America’s fourth-favorite-animated-family, Squidbillies, premieres a special 30-minute all-star musical, 'America: Why I Love Her' on [adult swim]. Creators Dave Willis and Jim Fortier pulled out their rolodex to reel in some of America’s bona-fide musical talents spanning bluegrass,... southern rock, and country-ish / Americana. You’ll hear music from Gillian Welch, David Rawlings,
Lucinda Williams, Drive-By Truckers, bonnie 'prince' billy, Jackyl, Todd Snider, Rhett Miller, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Hayes Carll, and Split Lip Rayfield. Now that's a heap of good listenin'."

I did see it. It was pretty funny - but, no, it was not what I expected. The Truckers were the only animated guest. Their song was hilarious. The credits rolled by so fast at the end that I didn't catch the name of the song Dave & Gillian did. I'll have to see if I can catch it on demand or set one of them re-air reminders.

**EDIT**
You can stream it here until August 10th. Let 'er blow!

**EDIT EDIT**
Alright - after re-watching it a couple times, I think I have it figured: Gillian & Lucinda Williams sing "Ain't It Odd". Lucinda is the blue bird, Gillian is the cardinal. They also sing on the next song, "Listen To The Animals" (lmfao) with the rest of the critters:
Dave Rawlings - squirrel
Hayes Carll - raccoon
Bonnie Prince Billy - beaver
Todd Snider - rabbit
Jimmie Dale Gilmore - goat (?)
Rhett Miller - ? (deer? bear? horse?)

And the Truckers weren't the only animated guest. I totally forgot about "Raised By Jackyl". Split Lip Rayfield was Al-Qaeda for the song "We Did It!" and Rhett Miller was the paraplegic terrorist for "Yellowcake". DBT's "For This Land" closed the episode. So funny.

Hayl Yeah! Demockercy wins agayun!!

for reals, i spent 15 minutes pausin thru the credits. and if i'd watched it without the CC turned on i'd not understood nary a word of it. i can say this is the first time ive heard the words dick and cooter (at least in this context) on the cartoon network. it was...interestin, but a lil too far out there for me. yes even me.

First Dave&Gillian do Squidbillies, now they are on a Tom Jones record. What's next? Opening up a saltwater taffy, fudge, and dinner theatre in Gatlinburg, TN?

I'll take the taffy, but you can keep the cheesy dinner theater...

On a different note, here is a random sign I found today on the side of the road-

I said yes. Very Happy

I don't think this has been posted here yet: DRM are going to be on BBC 2's Bob Harris Country on 23rd September 7pm UK time.

For all you guys overseas, you'll be able to listen to it on the iPlayer for seven days after the show has been broadcast.

Not announced yet. I suppose they are gonna have a band with them, but unsure who it will be.

I plan on buying tickets for Knoxville Friday.

I think this could be interesting..... Dave is supposed to be producing Willie's new solo album, But at the same time they have such a long history with the boys from OCMS..... Is it too early to hope Dave and Gillian could be the thread to draw those guys (you all know who I mean) back together?!?!? Neither Willie nor OCMS have dates announced for the stretch of dates DRM has announced....Probably wishful thinking....... Either way, With the guys that toured with them the first time or a totally different lineup, I'm stoked for some DRM and I'm sure it will be a great set of shows!!!! Very Happy Very Happy

DRM played Largo in Hollywood several times in 2008 (about once a week)or so before his record came out. He also played as a guest for the Watkins Family Hour with Sara and Sean Watkins. JPJ shwoed up to severla of those, and he also produced Sara's first album.
