| On this site, as well as a much lesser lyrics website, I found something missing from this song. Does anyone else hear "I had a girl, her name was Eve," at the very beginning of the song, before the "Every time I'd hit her she'd holler police,"? I find this in both the version on Eutaw and the self titled album. Please tell me I'm not crazy. Thank you. |

Yep you're not wrong, you're just suffering from a modicum of self-doubt.  That line is missing from the archive transcription. I'd guess that the other websites stole it from here Well spotted. And welcome!

I didn't realize that Tear It Down was based on the confluence of the fiddle tune "Pig Ankle Rag" and the Memphis Jug Band's "Tear It Down". I'm curious to know if the Old Crows were the first to do that - my guess is that they are, based on Ketch's syncretic method of building new tunes. Neat! |
