I dont understand why they wouldn't have put Caroline on the O.C.M.S. album, but I'm glad they didn't....kind of a hidden jewel. When introducing the Crows to new ears, I always show them this song first....then the inevitable Wagon Wheel. You can kind of tell Ketch wrote it, the whole second verse being about baseball and all. Great tune. |

Trials and Troubles. Absolutely kills me - sounds more like a trad. tune. Ketch, Willie & the boys have old souls. |

It sounds old because they took the first verse and chorus from a trad. stomp number. You can hear part of it on a Henry Thomas tune called "Arkansas." |

I remember just after we discovered Old Crow, we were listening to the CD and my husband said,"This isn't an old song, you know. It's not a cover. They wrote it."
I was blown away. That song was Take 'em Away. It remains my favourite of their originals. |

take 'em away.
this song is just awesome... beautiful lyrics. there's a line something like "the land that i love is where 2 rivers collide, the brazos and the navasota and the big blue sky" and i live just a few minutes from both.
beautifully written song. |

When I first started getting into the band, Caroline was available for download on their website. That was nearly two years ago, and I haven't seen it there for a while. I don't know where else you might find it. |

Because it's been so slow on here, I thought maybe rehashing old topics might spark some life.
As far as favorite Old Crow original, I'm still pretty partial to Caroline (new version and old version alike) but My Good Gal and James River Blues back to back always get me pretty good.
It's been a few albums and 8 years since we did this last, but what do you guys think? |

"Big Time in the Jungle" or "James River Blues." Critter for President. |

"James River Blues" might top the list. "Carry Me Back" and "Half Mile Down" put up a good showing in recent years. |

Itunes says Take 'em Away followed by We're All In This Together,
and I can live with those choices. |
