Lately I've been listening to...

Lonesome River Band- Head on into Heartache

The Sting Dusters demo - up and coming bluegrass band, saw thier first show at the Station Inn when they were Wheelhouse and can't wait to hear more of this great band.

Marvin Gaye, New Grass Revival, Marty Stuart, James Brown, Miles Davis, Buena Vista Social Club, Brad Paisley, Drive By Truckers and of course Old Crow have been getting alot of play on the iPod lately as well.

Brodank, how's that Charlie Poole album? It's the box set right? I've picked it up in the record store a few times and looks good but am not to familiar with his stuff.

I listen to Alison Krauss & Union Station all the time these days. I am so in love with her voice. They're my most listened to band by far at the moment.

I've also been listening to the Darkness a lot at work, ha ha! They're so "British", which is something I miss right now.

Oh, and Roger got me into Matisyahu too!

I have almost finished my mock GCSEs, so I'm avoiding stuff which is too distracting from work.

I been listening to a lot of Terry "British rockstar who passed on being in Led Zepplin and Deep Purple" Reid lately. His classic "brave awakenings" (which you probably recognize from 70s FM radio even if you think you have no idea who Terry Reid is) had particular resonance recently in light of the WV coal mine disaster. I think he is making a little comeback now since some of his classics were featured on the soundtrack to The Devil's Rejects last summer

I just can't stop listening to Kitchen Syncopators 'Yazoo City Strugglers' - it's inspired me to play fiddle for the first time in 15 years!!!

My new iPod Nano (birthday gift from my lovely hubby) is helping me rediscover lots of stuff I hadn't listened to in years - I'm a teenager all over again when I hear Blondie 'Parallel lines' Very Happy

I have also been addicted to my friend Benjy Ferree's stuff, he does all his own stuff which is very good and then covers a Johnny Cash song which has grown to be one of my favorites, it goes something like

For the past few days or so I keep going back to James Browns Sex Machine, wow, I don't know if that came out the way I intended...

Seriously though this album is fantastic. I had always kinda liked James Brown, but never owned one of his albums. Than one day I saw this album featured on VH1's top 100 albums of all time. Think it was in the top 5 or so. You gotta figure that anything in the top 5 albums of all time has gotta be good, so I went out and picked it up. That was several years ago and I seem to always keep going back to it. If you don't have a copy, and like some good funky stuff every now and again, do yourself a favor and go check out James Browns Sex Machine.
