I Found the Syncopaters , by way of the Crows. Love the Syncopaters.
The Crows' Dylanesque Jug band/Appalachian sound moves me a bit more
Than the Syncopaters, but, the Kitchen Syncopaters plow my true favorite field- the Early Blues. Any other Charlie Patton, Son House, Syncopater, Furry Lewis, Frank Stokes, Gary Davis, John Hurt, Bukka White, Sonny & Brownie, ect.... fans out there?
Let's Talk. |

do they have a website?? i googled them and didn't find anything so i am assuming they dont... but i found yazoo city on limewire and i like them a lot... i took the extended nut off my dobro and ive been tryin to play that style, and i was wondering if he uses an alternate tuning? it sounds on some songs that his high e is tuned down to a d, but i might be wrong... any of yall know? |

yes, the old Blues , in the style of the syncopators/syncopaters (whatever) use Alternate tunings religiously, spiritually even - Open D- D A D F# A D or open G - D G D G B D Or E and A tuning which is those two Tunings with every string one whole Tone Higher. But that is a lot of tension on your neck, some prefer that , I don't know why , use a capo. Alternate tunings are a wonderful thing, embrace them, study them, become them, my child, only then can you truly play the Blues. |

i agree, open tunings are a wonderful thing. i'm not much of a guitar player but i recently started playing the dobro. i really don't know why so many people choose to just imitate the pedal steel and play country music on it. it seems like it was made to play the blues! with the open tuning you can get some really nice john hurt style bass stuff.
p.s. i'm also a HUGE kitchen syncopators fan. i'd love to see them live but going all the way to oregon doesn't seem like much of an option to me right now. |

I really enjoyed Gilbert with the Crows. . . . I'd like to see him do the one guy on a stool in a small smoky bar type of a gig. Thanks for the myspace link. .. I'm enjoying these tunes. |

I have underwood and yazoo city struggler - both excellent, but it's yazoo that gets the most play - it's awesome |

Just a note to the moderators...especially "THERODGE"
In the "Off Topic" section THE RODGE locked out a discussion about this group. That is the right section for discussion about other bands. This section, The Music Section, is for OLD CROW MUSIC. Either this topic should be moved to the right section or the other topic should be re-opened.
sorry to be an ass. |

so this thread is REALLY old and most of the ppl who posted on it a while back are gone now, but since rodge posted that nice little treat for us in the good morning thread today.
i went to the syncopators myspace and this may be old news, but there's a really good version of "tell it to me" on there. check it out! |

Order of release...

2. tijuana zebra ('02)
3. Pepper In My Shoe ('03)
4. Yazoo City Strugglers ('04)
5. Underwood ('05)
6. Live in Sedona ('06) |
