<  Archive  ~  Grateful Dead covers?

I've only heard 1 cover and it was the best dead cover i've ever heard..

US Blues!! anybody else heard them do another dead song? I've heard they are deadheads and their van has some Dead stickers on it.. Just thought I'd ask..

Ive heard them play "One more saturday night" which really rocks! One of my favorite covers of theirs. I know they have sang at least one other Grateful Dead song but I can't remember what it is for the life of me. KrazyKarl may know.


I know which other one I'm thinking of... it's "Stealin'" ... eventhough that is a Gus Cannon song. Had to google it. hehe. There may be one more Dead song they do, though.

I would love to hear all these dead songs.. anybody wanna help me out Wink

Those songs would be so sweet to hear, Im jealous.. US Blues blew my mind tho.. I thought I died, no joke.. I had to settle down at the show and make sure it was really happening..

Just to clarify, GDTRFB is not a Grateful Dead "written" song, its a traditional song the Grateful Dead played. . . ..

US Blues and One More Saturday Night are the only GD songs I'm aware of OCMS covering. There is lots of traditional material both bands have played. . .

Nah, I saw them do it in Chicago this past year, was simply brilliant.. the best cover, i've ever heard.. I'd love to hear them do alabama getaway

On archive.org, when soundboards were still downloadable. If only I'd known -- should have grabbed more at the time! It was credited there as "Cocaine Blues" but it's really "Tell It to Me".

It's not Grisman. Nelson plays a bit of mando too. Not sure it's him, but I am sure it's not Grisman (can tell by listening).

It's clearly David Nelson from NRPS, he plays mandolin aswell as a fender.
in 1970 NRPS joined the dead on tour, since this is a live show I can only imagine it being David Nelson. I don't think Grisman went on many tours with the dead just to play mandolin here and there..

Hardly a burn dude.....just correcting me....

I did some investigating and i never knew of all these acoustic sets from GD......I read that they would do 1st set acoustic for these shows in 1970.....Im gonna have to get ahold of some.......thanks!

I have a few acoustic shows that i pretty much wore out......i never knew there were many more

they had a bunch of early shows, and late shows, with one being acoustic, and the other electric, they did some all acoustic too and then with NRPS in the middle, and David Nelson would jam with the Dead and Garcia would come out and play peddle-steel with NRPS.

I know this isn't a Grateful Dead song but I would really like to hear them cover "The Midnight Special". First time I heard it was done by Creedence Clearwater Revival but it's a Leadbelly original aint it?

to hear ole Willy belt it out and da boys harmonies on it would be pretty dang awesome.

How 'bout "Don't Ease Me In" ? It's a traditional tune the dead did since way back in '66. It would really fit Old Crow's musical personality.

Ya, that songs sweet, out of all the bands i've heard do cover songs, I like old crows the best, not sure if its just cause I love old crow, or cause they have the ability to take the song and make it theirs is amongst the best i've ever seen, I liked their versions of covers better, then the originals, mostly.

Yupp ol' Leadbelly fo sho...I agree with your suggestion. Would be excellent. A few tweeks but mmm..mm..mm.

Sorry...I know this thread is old, but I'm new Smile

I have to say, even though its not a Grateful Dead original, they did play a fantastic rendition of Corrina, Corrina in Minneapolis last Novemeber. That whole show was amazing. I brought a half dozen friends to that show who had never heard Old Crow and all of them siad its the most fun they've had in a long, long time.
