Nice track selection. They aren't really into the whole "tender love song" thing, are they? The only thing that could make that EP meaner is "Good Gal." |

Sixteen months later....
So this was the first time a studio version of "Fall On My Knees" had been released, right? Is it also the first and or only studio version of this song?
About two weeks ago I found Down Home Girl under a pile of cd's. I turn it over to remember what songs were on it. I was surprised to see "Fall On My Knees" even though I listened to it when I first got it; but I was still fairly new to the band then and hadn't heard the LIVE version yet, so this version didn't really mean anything to me. So after Big Iron World came out I had no reason (I thought) to listen to the EP anymore because the other two songs were on there. Later on I got the LIVE cd and that's the version I'd been listening to.
So a couple of weeks ago the EP catches my eyes and I put it on. The sticker fell out...it keeps falling out...I just can't remember that it's in there. To tell the truth, I couldn't remember what the studio version sounded like because it'd been forever since I'd heard it, but man, oh, man, it sounds so pretty. I love the harmonies on it. The boys sound so young and new. Now I can't stop listening to that version. It sounds so damn good.
Anybody else here like the studio version better than the LIVE (cd) version? |

i had spoken to a dj of WDVX about this ep before the cd came out and they had been playing Fall on My Knees a lot and were disappointed when it wasn't on the full cd... I am kinda partial to the live version but the ep verison does sound great |

yeah - i'm more partial to the Live version, given that it's got the third verse and for the amazing build up to the first chorus -- and just when you think they can't take it any higher they blow your mind into the second chorus... that's why Live is the best. That said, the EP version has a cleanness to it that is appealing, i just wish they hadn't opted to shorten it and continue to play it shortened these days.
I also wish they'd sell that sticker that came with it seperately, though at three bucks for the EP, it's almost worth it to buy multiple copies and then give the disc away to folks to turn them on to the OCMS -- I mean it's got Fall On My Knees and James River Blues on it... if that doesn't turn someone on to the band then they just don't and won't get it. |

Woo! Off probation
If you scroll down on this page until you find the session info for 1966 there is a tiny link for an mp3 for the Coasters version of Down Home Girl, produced by Leiber and Stoller, with James Booker on piano and Phil Ramone at the sound desk
It's pretty close to the original by Alvin Robinson.
