I know there are already a few fiddle-themed threads kicking around, but I thought it might be a good idea to try and create a comprehensive list of songs and their tunings. I'm always aggravated when I have to keep re-tuning after every other song because I couldn't keep the particular cross-tunings in mind. Hopefully it will be helpful for people who are beginning as well and might not be as adept at knowing which tunings are most convenient for playing. The tunings defer to studio recordings as much as possible, though some are different live, or have only been played live (e.g. Live, "James River Blues" is in standard tuning, rather than the whole-step down Cajun tuning used on "Big Iron World" which the tune is listed under). Pitches are from lowest string to highest. Good luck, and happy fiddling!

Yes, Liza is for sure. Don't know about Darlin', but if you're guitaring in A than it most likely is.

Thanks for the additions, guys. I've made the corrections, and noted Jkorp's as the preferred tuning in the cases where we differ. When I have time to fiddle and check them out I'll eliminate my "alternate" (i.e. wrong) tunings completely. As you learn them, add 'em!

I don't know if I'm playing in the right tunings or not. Just how I figured them out and what sounded right. In all likelihood, I've got them all wrong, lol. But I've always subscribed to "play it the way you want or can, at least you're playing".

I agree. I play "The times they are a changin" completely different than Bob does...different chord progression. I think it suites my vocals better.

Note the addition of several more songs at top. I have the feeling that "Hard to Tell" and "Johnny..." may be played in ADAE but I think it makes more sense to have them in cross-D.

Cool. I wanted to tell you I started playing it in Old Timey D (ADAE), seems like it makes it easier to play in terms of finger reach, but makes one of the string transitions harder. I like knowing how to play this in a cross tuning though, because If I'm in A, I can still play it.

When I get some time, I'll try to provide an alternate tab.

Did anyone try that Sally Ann Tab?

lately i've been playing around with Beech Creek Dirge in standard. I'm sure there's probably an easier tuning though.

I've been working on "Bonaparte's Retreat" in Dead Man's tuning

(DDAD)

I really like this, but it's hard as a mofo to get that low G to stay in tune at D.
