I was thrilled to hear Ketch shout out Vanderburgh County, where I live, at the beginning of "Cocaine Habit" on "Big Iron World."
Is that a live recording? The only thing I can figure is that it was recorded when they played here in Evansville at the Lamasco Bar in spring of '04, or maybe immediately after - we're not that far from Nashville.
Anyone know?
Thanks! |

I'm not convinced one way or the other. At the beginning, when Ketch messes up, you can hear the band break up but there also is other laughter in the background.
I've heard recordings of live shows before in which the audience isn't heard at all.
Not saying it IS live - just not sure. Any other opinions? |

I think it's from the studio and it's the band you hear laughing. On thier first album there was alot of little things like this (ex. "holdonaminuteletmegitmyharmonica").
I think it's a good production technique, makes it more informal. It's one of the things that I really liked about OCMS. |

wendy - i think the point is that y'all apparently have good blow up yonder in vanderburgh.
that "tell it to me" false start/screwup had to have been for real, what a crack-up!! what a sense of humor to throw it in on the album. |

I have no doubt that they have messed it up live in the past. The songs are quite similar. They just liked the mess up so much that they threw it all on the album. It just sounds too rehearsed on the album. I wonder if anyone out there has heard them mess it up live...? |

I'm with you there, it's great to hear the boys having a laugh at themselves, letting a little screw-up make it through the cuts. It fits them and their character very well. |

well, wendy - if you ever get tired of vanderburgh's powder drugs, come on out to pittsylvania, virginia - conveniently located next to the moonshine capital of the world (franklin county, va) - we get our corn from the jar out here!!! honestly, there ain't much else going on except raising cows and tobacco... |

Well. It's not live from Vanderburgh county. But it may be live from the studio. From what I have heard about David Rawlings production techniques, they dont do many overdubs. They just play each song over and over again till it sound right. |
