I'm a fan! I've turned them on to quite a few friends who are now fans also. I don't care if they sell out or change their sound every album... they are an amazing live band and I like their new stuff as much as the older stuff. Personally I like bands that grow and change...
No disrespect intended but I think their sound is more open to change than OCMS's... The Avett's were never really a traditional bluegrass band to begin with!
That said I've never heard anything prior to Carolina Jubilee so I suppose I could be wrong? |

I never thought of OCMS as "bluegrass", especially traditional. They are way too loose and have entirely too much fun to be bluegrass... |

I meant comparatively The Avett Brothers were far less traditional or bluegrass than OCMS. They are so different sounding I shouldn't have mentioned them in the same sentence. I love both bands and seem to always be waiting for new music from either of them! |

Well said! I'm not much of a fan, but they do have a few tunes I like. I guess that puts me in between some of ya'll and 'Tucky... |

i'm gonna try to make the Kodak one. Not sure how much tickets are, but if they are 50 or more, I think I'll just stay at home.
October in and around Knoxville is shaping up to be a good one!
Avett Brothers - Oct. 7
Felice Brothers - Oct. 12
Justin Townes Earle - Oct. 21
now if a OCMS show could be announced it would be damn near perfect! |

I can read that small print, Stu! That's what happens when you drink the Kool-aid....
Ya'll are right, though. I can't believe they are even near big enough to be playing Bridgestone. With SOCIAL DISTORTION! Wow, does that bring back some memories! |

The first show I went to without my parents, or at east one of them, present was Social Distortion. Granted I was only 15 (or maybe even 14) and my older sister took me, but it still felt like complete freedom and was significant in developing my musical habits. I would LOVE to see them again... I think I would refrain from entering the mosh pit this time though. |

Dylan might have had something to do with it, but I'm placing all the blame on Mumford & Sons. |

Just found this thread. Our road trip gang saw the Avett Bro's about a month after seeing OCMS three times in three nights. This is what I posted to my facebook page-
"There are some concepts so basic they shouldn't need to be said. If people lived by this rule Facebook would wither and die.
My turn-Seeing a fave band from the edge of the stage is different than seeing a band you kinda like from 100 yards away. Pass it on."
I really liked the Avett's Bros first couple of albums, but it wasn't until I was surrounded by zombies in the cheap seats that I realized I really don't like their new stuff.

I must admit, I've never listened to the Avetts much (not because of a particular dislike, it's just somehow never happened), but this is beautiful.
One of my favourite McTell songs, and Seth sings it beautifully. And what a sweet sound Hank Sr's guitar makes! |

I listened and two things became apparent. Seth is not the Avetts. That was a nice version of the song.
But. He for sure ain't Wilie McTell either. |

I'm all for the guy playing dead men's music... I actually commend him highly for it. Just don't do it on Hank's guitar. Therein lies the blasphemy for me.
Since this has been done, I want to see Ketch Secor playing Old Jimmy Sutton or the like on Tommy Jarrell's fiddle at the Smithsonian. I demand this!!!!!!!!!!!! |
