Awesome Bo! My future sister and brother-in-law are going out for those shows too. When they told me I wasn't aware that the Avetts were opening otherwise I might have insisted on crashing their second honeymoon!

I just recently gave the Avett Brothers a second chance, and I Like what i am hearing, but, about 4 or 5 years ago, a Friend, Kip Beacco of the Hunger Mountian Boys ( A Fantastic duo, if you haven't heard them, look them up, I Don't think they are doing much these days, as the other member of the Duo Teddy Weber is also a member of The Wiyos who have had a lot of success of late) But anyway Kip recommended checking them out and the were pitiful the night I saw them, I had to apologize to the friend I dragged down the show.
The recordings I am hearing of them now are so night and day from that night, it was like going to see Elmore James for the first time based on his reputation, and unbeknownst to you, you saw one of the 30 Elmore imposters ( Elmore's reputation preceded him, but his appearance and recordings were not as widely known, so many guitar players booked gigs pretending to be Elmore James to get a better pay day) The Avett Brothers sucked the night I saw them, they were only a duo that night, and the Banjo Player was so abusive to his banjo that a string broke AT LEAST every 3rd song. Maybe it actually was imposters? because I can't imagine that these were the same people - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS4-2t7xIMY that I heard. I would have been singing their praises if they played like that.

Cool. I'm going to see Justin Townes Earle open for them on September 28 in Chicago. Should be a great show with the city skyline as the back drop. Looking forward to it.

Well - If you can't make it to the Ryman for NYE - Avetts just announced on their Facebook page their own NYE show in Greensboro, NC at the Coliseum. What a pit to hang out in... I really dislike Greensboro.

it debuted 4th on Billboard charts but jeez.... it went off the Ballady-Balls-In-Your-Woman's-Purse cliff!

It had been a steady decline but man, they did themselves in with this one

the new album is ok. its just not the avetts that i fell in love with years ago. i miss that DIY/punkish edge that they used to have. i try to be positive because i do love this band, but in my darkest moments, it feels like i'm listening to my generation's "bread" or some super cheesy shit like that.

After the performance, Rachel is gonna show 'em how to make a nice pumpkin quiche, and they're gonna discuss manscaping for metrosexuals...

a BIT of redemption, via playing with Chad Smith of RHCP...but that gosh damn Rachel Ray thing still burns pretty fresh Rolling Eyes

and its definitely Chad Smith back there, not Will Ferrell

Smith does resemble Will Ferrell, but the Avetts have got the Russell Brand look down too...

I like that song "Live and Die".

I can understand the Avetts' recent choices. They were an early part of that wave of banjo-centric pop music (I think in part they helped pave the way for Mumford & Sons' success), and now with Mumford and Sons blowing up, hopefully they can translate that into more mainstream success for themselves.

It'd be awesome if Old Crow got on Rachael Ray. I'm sure Gill makes a mean shrimp gumbo. Very Happy

My girlfriend's sister and brother-in-law are going Wednesday night for the taping.

Hopefully Randy Travis keeps his clothes on.
