Has anyone on here come across The Felice Brothers?
They're playing in London on Friday and are getting rave reviews in the UK press, and just wondered if they were worth seeing? |

I haven't seen them but I'm booked in for whenever they come to Ireland (next spring they said).
Check this out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BZQ6iuJ2kM
and their Myspace site - listen to Frankie's Gun.
I envy you the chance, Katie.
They're drawing a lot of comparisons with The Band, and they seem to belong to another era. Friendly, too. |

Thanks - I'd seen their myspace profile, but not the youtube clip. They seem cool.
Now all I have to do is persuade the old man that that's what he wants to do for his birthday - no mean feat as he's a bit of a techno freak. I get away with the crows cos they play very fast and he can relate to that |

Yeah. I'm really digging these guys. I got tickets to go see them on April 1....so we'll see. I was looking at their myspace page and it has a few clips of them playing in a house. Is it me, or is the fat guy standing around Mikey from Orange County Choppers? |

Glad to know that they cut their teeth by busking for tips, too!
from their wikipedia,
The Felice Brothers got their start as a band playing in the New York City Subway[2], but their musical experience started much earlier, the sons of a carpenter they would play together on Sundays at their father's afternoon barbecues[3]. They stayed in a little apartment in Brooklyn[2] and would play at the Subway stations near 42nd. Street and Union Square in Greenwich Village[4]. Now they tour the country, traveling in their "Short Bus"[1]. They went to England in the summer of 2007 to play a handfull of shows[4].
Their self-released debut album was Through These Reins and Gone[3] followed by Tonight At the Arizona released in 2007.[2] Through These Reins and Gone made it onto Radio Woodstock WDST's top 25 albums of 2006. Their most recent Album is Adventures of the Felice Brothers Vol. 1. "We put one record out on an English label, and we've released all the other stuff ourselves" as James Felice said it[3]. Their music is almost impossible to get your hands on unless you find yourself at one of their shows. The Felice Brothers have played at Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble in Woodstock, NY and have just concluded a tour with Bright Eyes[4]. On January 7, it was announced on www.team-love.com The Felice Brothers had signed a record deal with Team Love Records. The Brothers will play at Mountain Jam at Hunter Mountain again this year |

Saw em tonight... UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE!!!! short 45 minute set... gotta see a full show! Seeing them again tomorrow at Grimey's Record shop for another short but free set. Gonna be awesome!
Everyone affiliated with OCMS was there except for Willie & Critter. They didn't play, they were just in the crowd enjoying the night; Norm, Monica, Kevin, Morgan, Ketch, and Gil. I hardly spoke to any of them. I was too busy listening and taking pictures. No more than 7 pictures on the way and some good memories
more details soon |

couldn't agree more. Willie Watson put this on my myspace,
"felice brothers tonight? you know they're the best band in the history of the world, right?"
his recommendation will pull a lil more weight than mine

Ya - I was going to go see them tonight but KU is in the Championship game so I will have to wait for their next swing through town.
Buggin - I was thinking that was an old OCMS shirt too - - - so glad you confirmed my suspicions! |

holy hell the felice brothers are good!!!!!
nice tight, intimate atmosphere with a very interesting decor package. the only thing missing was a good crowd. there were plenty of people there mind you just plenty of disrespectful people who thought they were at a frat house. i don't normally complain too much about venue or audience but this crowd, honestly, was worthless. if you were more than four rows deep you mostly with people who didn't give a shit about the music. the only thing they gave a damn about was their own self important asses and whether or not others could see how cool they were because they were drinking a pbr tall boy. at one point justin townes earle (who was brilliant as well) got asked to play copperhead road. he said that out of all the places he's played on tour the last two months birmingham was the first place to ask for that. he then promptly told them to kiss his ass. he was within his rights to say even more.
the felice brothers and jte were both very gracious. the felice brothers rocked so hard they overcame a room that tried to talk louder than they played. it's almost like it fueled them to play harder. their stage presence is great and the sound...........wow! i'd have to say that of all the bands i've seen this year (and that's at least one per week) the felice brothers have been my favorite. i can't wait to see them again. |
