That's great -- Blue Moon's a heck of a joint.

Man, I am just noticing how many great photos Gill's got on his myspace. All together, they look like he's having a life I'd like to steal -- black and white roads and Waffle houses and characters of all sorts.

Also, don't have his solo album, but I am digging the tracks on his page, especially the title one -- can't stop a-listening to it.

Big Surprise Tour... and that album I keep talking about
Hey Folks,
Well I don't know what's going to happen or how (to me that's no surprise)
but there will be music played and good times had-
The next two weeks I'm going out with Old Crow, The Felice Brothers,
David Rawlings and Justin Townes Earle for what has been called the Big Surprise Tour.
Each band will be playing sets and in the end we will be a Frankenstein Orchestra
of fiddles, drums, banjos, electric guitars, washboards, organs, what have you -
14 members in all!
Here's the dates-

August 2009
4 - Hampton Beach, NH - Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom
5 - Boston, MA - House of Blues
6 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre
7 - Philadelphia, PA - Electric Factory
9 - Charlottesville, VA - Charlottesville Pavilion
10 - Cary, NC - Koka Booth Amphitheatre
12 - Louisville, KY - Waterfront Park
13 - Nashville, TN - Riverfront Park
14 - Knoxville, TN - World's Fair Park

On a side note when I have any free time
I'm neck deep in putting a new coat of paint on the album
I started earlier this year, so if you like my last album it's worth the wait!
Unless one of us has changed and you decide I don't like this Gill Landry
I like the old Gill Landry, what's happened to the guy I don't know? I miss him.
Or perhaps I'll tour and look into your beautiful eyes and feel nothing again
for the first time and think where's the old crowd I used to love so deeply?
And you may exalt or defame me in glorious or degrading ways
and I won't even notice because I'll be too busy trying to figure out
how to make kimchi soup in a tin can, wondering why I have so many
cassette tapes, etc...
Or perhaps we will together find a beautiful moment that carries us into the next
dimension a place without cars or electricity where records are only things
for making decorative bowls out of and we will play our music around campfires
and by the candlelight reflected off of saloon mirrors!

Lots of love and good luck-
Gill

Anybody heard the status of Gill's solo album that he's working on? I've been listening to The Ballad of Lawless Soirez over and over here lately and I'm jonesing for some new Gill!!!

Which reminds me, Gill's Ugly Town has to have the greatest three lines in music history in it:

I won't apologize for not giving a damn
Or the cynical bastard you know that I am
I'm just gonna walk out the door

Today's news that Old Crow won't be doing another album on the Nettwerk lable (if I understand things correctly) has me wondering if Gill will release his album on his own.

He's got to release it soon so that he can tour with it--so to speak--before he leaves for Oz. Don't you think, Gumbo?

Gill's posted a song from his new album. It's great, with a little fiddle in it that might be Ketch.

I think it is Farley on the fiddle... and the rest of the Felice Brothers on the various other instruments.

So i was looking for Gill's new album on Amazon, found this:

http://www.amazon.com/On-Top-Of-Old-Smokey/dp/B002P30JVA/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1268004287&sr=8-12

Gill Landry doing "On Top of Old Smokey" for the Simple Life, Camp Songs...

is this something everyone knew, or am I just out of the loop?

http://www.roughstock.com/blog/brandi-carlile-concert-review-austin-texas

"Gill Landry opened the show with a meandering and mesmerizing set of country. Landry is perhaps best known in recent months for working with Old Crow Medicine Show. He rambled through numbers like Dixie (about an extinct beer [Really?]) and Louisiana. He lists “cold hearted women, Louisiana and lost love” among his influences and these were on full display in his set. Landry’s music hits a vibe that runs somewhere between Townes Van Zandt on the High Plains and Hank Williams on Beale street. He is one of those opening acts that might well have stolen the show, had his headliner been a lesser artist."
