Went and saw Woody Pines and the Lonesome 2 ia guess 3 now at the WDVX blue plate special..he was awesome super nice guy too..
Anybody else caught one of his shows?
also funny story..Was talking to him after his sset and this older guy comes up to him and says "I just want to thank you for not playing anything with any garbage in it..you know talkin about moonshine and whatnot" and it took everything I had not to laugh out loud, cause he just got done playing a song called "Refer Man" but Woody was cool and just thanked him haha

first time i saw gil landry play was at the downhome in johnson city, tn and woody played drums for him. he was a really chill dude, cuttin up between songs didn't care one bit to shoot the breeze after the show (as did gil and the bass player). plus there was maybe 15 people at this show so they were really appreciative of the guys that came out.

For you that don't know,

Woody Pines used to play washboard for OCMS circa 2002 at a few shows. I saw him play with them 3 or 4 times at the DownHome in Johnson City, TN. Dang that seems like so long ago. I think he played the Asheville show and New Orleans show in 2006.

Woody Pines is a good man and is apart of the Old Crow family. Listen to him HERE

Colwyn Bay Conservatives posters

ONE of the hottest roots music acts in America, Woody Pines – recently hailed by BBC Radio 2’s legendary presenter Bob Harris as “a breath of fresh air” – stop off at the Victoria Hotel in Menai Bridge on Tuesday, March 23, as part of their debut UK tour.

Certain talented musicians have the ability to transport the listener to a different time by just hitting some strings or directing the air that fills their lungs. For Woody Pines, you find yourself in the Mississippi Delta when AM radio was king, sipping whiskey if you’re fortunate and moonshine if you’re desperate.

The band; comprised of Woody on guitar, banjo, harmonica and lead vocals, Zack Pozebanchuk on upright bass, Nathan Taylor on stripped down drums, and Darin Gentry on fiddle; concoct a heady brew of ragtime, country blues and old-time jazz that embraces a simpler time.

The band's new album Counting Alligators is a foot stomping twang from America's highways and bi-ways and was co-produced by Gill Landry from the Old Crow Medicine Show and features guest appearances by Henry Westmoreland from Squirrel Nut Zippers and Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show.

Front man and song-writer Woody, from North Carolina via Louisiana cajun country and whose name has been adopted as the band’s, comes from a musical family and has been playing music since he can remember. He describes the band’s sound as “one that has been created through time,” and its songs reflect that belief . “New Orleans has music seeping out of the bricks in the old French quarter,” said Woody, who moved to New Orleans to study the city’s famous music scene, “We went down there to learn the music, not just note for note, but also through the food and lifestyle that make New Orleans so special.”

The band have quickly developed into one of the hot acts on the US touring circuit and many of their shows for their debut tour of the UK have already sold out! Grab you tickets for the Vic now from Cob Records in Bangor or Palas Print in Caernarfon.

Definitely going to go to that one. You can stream it online though. I think WSM is still doing it but Lightning 100 may have picked it up. Lemme check.

Cool! I couldn't find the info on the page on who was streaming it. So WSM is still doing it? I had heard that they were going to be dropping Music City Roots and Bluegrass Underground and Lightning 100 were going to pick them up. But maybe thats not the case.

I don't think it's WSM anymore, Rodge.

I had a look on the Music City Roots main page and then clicked on "moments" > "audio". It then directs you here. So looks like a video stream to me, so we might get video as well as audio which would be cool Smile

The Lightning 100 website directs you to the same link, so that seems to be its new home. And MCR's Facebook page goes there too, so they're covering all their bases Smile

Some past shows are archived as well, so will need to check them out at some point!

I like the top one, but the bottom one has me in it, so I don't like it. I like being behind the camera, not in front of it.

I just found out Woody will be playing New Year's Day in Buffalo! Going to be playing at a nice little venue where I saw David Mayfield the other night, should be a good way to start off the year! Not like being at the Ryman last year... but I'll take what I can get.

Rodge! Can't believe you aren't goin' to see Lynyrd Skynyrd down on Broad!

On the other hand, Jason & the Scorchers are playin' someplace I've never heard of.

Yessss, you'll be in for a treat! Well, in my humble opinion anyways Very Happy

I'm not actually sure who else is all coming over, but it'll be Woody and Zach for sure. It's always such a good time when these guys come to play, and I'm sure you'll love it! Sound-wise, for me, it sort of continues on from the Syncopators (I always think you can hear that Gill and Woody played together quite a bit). And fun music to dance to! This is a nice wee taster of what to expect.

With all the news over at the Hackensaw camp, they should just take Shawn with them to the UK. He played with them the other week...

Anyways, I'm sure you'll have a fab time!!

Well they didn't disappoint and what a nice bunch of people! Chatted to them for a bit. They were off the next day to record a session for BBC3 which will be shown later in the year - pretty cool.

Anyway, here's a few pics and some video. Terrible lighting in the venue so not that great.
