Pokey's new album Riverboat Soul is absolutely killer. It's a must own, if'n ye ask me! |

Yep - i loved the sound the band have together - very classy and effortlessly authentic - and Pokey Lafarge is so genuine i'd buy a used car on the street from him |

Old Black Dog - Pokey with Ketch on fiddle, and Greg Farley mainly just loitering
Looks to me like Farley was trying to replace a string on his fiddle and not elbow Ketch at the same time. |

It sure is, Rodge!!
The boys caused quite a stir on their tour over here! People seemed to absolutely love them everywhere they went. They even managed to get three encores at the Summer Sundae Festival in Leicester, sold out lots of shows, got to record a 78rpm and gained heaps of new fans.
Can't wait for the new album and for them to come back next May/June!!
Faboulous band indeed!! |

Had a blast yesterday! Pokey Lafarge & The South City Three are the genuine article. Going to one of their shows is like using a Time Machine. Good folks. |

they've added a few more european dates including one nearer me
EDIT i just got to listening to that show, rodge. Excellent. It's great to hear some new songs, and hopefully they'll have the album when they come over in the summer.
Love that "We're drinking whiskey tonight" |

Yay Stu, you get to see them again and won't have to travel the length of the island!!
Thankfully, there are plenty Scottish dates too
Things really seem to be taking off for them. Way cool!
As far as I know the new album should be out on May 23rd in Europe and July 19th in the US. So they should have it with them when they come over! Full-lenth preview of three songs here.
Track list:
1 So Long Honeybee, Goodbye
2 Ain't The Same
3 Head To Toe
4 Sunny Side of the Street
5 Shenandoah River
6 Mississippi Girl
7 Feels So Good
8 River Rock Bottom
9 Weedwacker Rag
10 Drinkin' Whiskey Tonight
11 Good Country Girls
12 Coffee Pot Blues
13 Keep Your Hands Off My Gal
I've heard all the songs at one gig or the other and they sounded great live, so can't wait to hear what they sound like on the album. Only song I would have loved to have seen added is "Now You Know". One of my faves.
Was talking to Pokey in January of last year, and he said he was really hoping to get a proper horn section on the next record. Good to see it worked out.
Now I just have to decide which shows to go to... |

Ha!!
that's great news that they're releasing in europe first, it always does my heart good to be able to buy direct from the guys' suitcase!
And Mississippi Girl is on it, too. I don't remember "Now you know" - do you have a youtube link? I can't find one posted. Is Weedwacker Rag really about strimming?
Wow - i just realised it's out in ten days! |
