Thanks fan for sharing the playlist!
Yay, loads of new songs! There are a few I don't know yet. Can't wait to hear them live.
Haha, aye, "Pokey LaFarge & The South City Three, The Girl From Cali and The Englishman" might be a bit of a mouthful.... |

Didn't even have to beg for the setlist. Pokey knows I am an avid fan, he hopped off the stage after show and handed it to me. Quite the gentleman. |

New Pokey album to be released via Third Man Records this June!
Third Man Records is happy to announce a new partnership with one of our favorite musicians out there working today, Pokey LaFarge. Pokey and his band bring a focus and energy to the American Roots genre with infectious original material that sits at the crossroads of early jazz, country blues and western swing. With his effortless charisma and distinctive charm, Pokey has crafted a genre all his own--and one that extends well beyond the music alone.
Summertime is the right time for Pokey's sun-blessed riverboat style, and this June will mark our release of his next full length LP / CD titled simply Pokey LaFarge (produced by Old Crow Medicine Show frontman Ketch Secor). Look out for a single from the album, "Central Time", which will be released ahead of the full length in May.
To celebrate (we love to celebrate), we'll be hosting Pokey and his band here at Third Man in our Blue Room live venue for a record release party / direct to acetate recording session on June 1st.
Pokey LaFarge and his band will be hitting the highways and byways this spring and summer, check all the dates here and be sure to see them when they come through your town!

The Booneville MO show is the evening main event, following a day long bicycle event from Columbia MO to Booneville on the Katy Trail - longest rails (abandoned railroad) to trails project in US. This will be our 1st time participating in the "Pedaler's Jamboree". Pokey joining the line-up was the kicker this year!

New single "Central Time"
https://soundcloud.com/thirdmanrecords/pokey-lafarge-central-time/s-rsF82
Sounds real good. Huge congrats to Pokey Pokey and the boys (and gal)! The production and mastering sound great as well. Congrats to Ketch and Morgan on their first album created in their new studio.
I think Third Man Records is only distributing it. I could be wrong though. I'll check dem liner notes tomorrow night!
See ya out there, Caveman! |

Looking forward to seeing Pokey and the gang in Lyons Co next week. Had some problems with sound at the Booneville Mo show. I think after working with several bands before Pokey, the sound crew was tuckered out. |

I've been on a major Pokey kick lately. He didn't quite grab me until he nearly stole the show last NYE. I'd love to see him again, but -- sigh -- Pittsburgh. |

Just saw my first Pokey headliner show.
Awesome.
My knees hurt from dancin'.
I dragged my mom along. She thought it was awesome. |

Well done, Pokey!
My mom is convinced that Pittsburgh audiences are always the worst, though. I am inclined to agree. They're just so stiff, mostly. I danced next to some other ladies, though. |

I had my first live Pokey Lafarge experience last week. I had so much fun! It was a small crowd. Most of the people by the stage appeared to be the opening band and friends of the opening band. But, although small, it was overall a good crowd. And even though it was a small turnout Pokey and band (who are incredible) played a fabulous, long show. Most of the "Central Time" album was covered ("when that bowlegged woman starts shakin' it" keeps going through my head). Someone requested "Cairo, Illinois" for the encore. I'm so glad he did because I doubt if Pokey had planned on singing it and his performance of it that night was really powerful and goose-bump inducing. One of those things that you're just grateful to be there to experience.
I gave up trying to take photos at shows. I don't have Jumpin' Bean's skills. I would try to capture the passion and energy of a performance and my photos just turned out static. So, rather than distract myself from the music by trying to get a good shot, I just gave up - sorry!
One last word, there were two brothers at the front of the stage who were apparently Pokey super fans. They were very exuberant and it was slightly awkward, but the way Pokey and band interacted with them was really rather sweet and well done. The relationship I have with the performers I admire is through their music. I don't try to meet them or even feel like I have to like all the artists whose work I admire. But it was rather gratifying to see that an artist who you spend time and money on is in fact "good people."
Ok, that's all a very long-winded way of saying I'm glad Pokey and the band finally made it to my town.
P.S. I'm mainly a lurker, but really I appreciate people who still stop by here to talk of artists they've discovered and shows they've seen. I think I first heard of Pokey and Spirit Family Reunion from this site and they are two of the best shows I've seen this year. Spirit Family Reunion was a small house how I was lucky enough to go to - magic! Milk Carton Kids is another one - seeing them later this month. So thanks folks! |

Saw Pokey LaFarge Dec 11 at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville with The Tillers & Bradford Lee Folk and the Bluegrass Playboys. Very awesome! I've been following his music for quite awhile and was finally able to witness the magic in person. The other bands were top notch as well. Any band that has the patina of early American music with such passionate enthusiasm as Pokey wins my vote as their fan every time. The multiple references to Americas inland waterways touches me personally as well. |

And bless him, he's giving Pittsburgh its due. I got two tickets for April, so somebody is being dragged along for mandatory dance parties. |

What do y'all think of the new album? Have you seen them live lately? What do you think about Pokey taking more of the spotlight and being more upfront? |
