it was actually a relief to read that they'd both been ill just before this recording because Gillian looks exhausted. Dave looks his usual amiable but slightly manic self.
The other thing about this video is how amazing it is to watch Gillian singing and how the whole story of the song is alive in her face - in sweet tooth* for example - the line 'that's what my uncle john told me' where she looks off into the distance and then nods in agreement as the line finishes is especially engaging

I was thinking about you, Kitty. Ketch did so much bass singing during the set that it sounded a little strange to hear him using his regular voice during his verse (Luke my friend) of The Weight. Red Clay Halo was amazing with the added bass line. My favorite musical moment came at the end of It's Too Easy when Dave and Ketch were trading licks and kept speeding up until it ended in just a frenzy. The funniest moment came during Sweet Tooth. the song started with Dave, Gillian, and Morgan on stage. Later in the song Ketch and Willie came back out and proceeded to do a slow motion dance routine next to Dave, culminating in Willie getting right up next to Dave and doing a series of pelvic thrusts. Dave had his eyes closed in mid guitar solo until he heard laughter from the audience.
Now it's on to Petaluma monday and into the city tuesday. I still wonder what they did on saturday night instead of playing a gig. |

Just got home from the SF show. I'll have set lists and more details after work tomorrow, but here's a tease. It ended up being a NINE piece Machine. |

Damn I'm tired.
I must say hi to Matthew and Beth, a delightful young couple who leaned on the stage right in front of me all three nights. |

A few pics from SC & SF (Petaluma was too dark for my little camera)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/36364415@N03/sets/72157623405350804/
A standout moment from each night:
Santa Cruz-Red Clay Halo- I was not expecting two gospel numbers in a row and the mandolin and bass singing made it magic.
Petaluma- Peter Rowan singing Ruby Ridge gave me chills.
San Francisco-The 4 piece Queen Jane Approximately was perfect. Gillian and Morgan locked into the rhythm while Dave and Benmont just took off for several minutes. |

Holy -- I am so jealous of that there set list! Particularly "Ruby Ridge."
Does the DRM EVER come east? They need to.
Sounds like some good evenings there, Rod. |

Well madam, if I manage to sneak that away, I'll let you know. All plans of the musical nature post May 1 are up in the air.
I'm hoping to do everything ever, however. |

Forgive me if this has already been posted. I'm not around as much as I used to be.
I was looking at YouTube videos last night and came across this. It's hilarious. Dave gets pissed off at a photographer and yells at him during the song! (About halfway through.) Watch Ketch's expression too. Priceless.

yea, Dave doesnt take any crap when it comes to photographers. I had heard that when Dave&Gillian were doing all those shows at the Station Inn that some person was doing some flash photography when they said no photos at all during the show. Heard Dave took dudes cheap camera and threw it against the back wall. I wasnt there though. |
