Might be some violence coming. As for the sex, I don't know if my Catholic upbringing will allow me to even type the words needed! (I've just lost all my readers, haven't I?)

I'm feeling a little garfunkley about this hiatus, though I completely understand the need, it just comes at a bad time for me... you see school is starting up again and I need things to entertain me whilst I procrastinate preparing lessons.

I'm so flattered that you folks are reading my serial! Something that started as a kind of lark has become rather important to me. I do wish that each week's entry were longer--Rian's story might take a year to tell--but I'm enjoying myself and I hope entertaining you all at least a little bit. And, Bean, the hiatus comes at a good time for me. (Sorry!) I'm giving a talk on Walden soon at our library and am writing a history of our local historical society. And I promised a friend to make progress on my novel. (Doesn't everyone have at least one novel inside them? I think so. I hope so!)

I have a novel inside me... started it about a couple of years ago, then dropped it when I picked up my paintbrush... then I dropped my paintbrush for my camera... guess I'll just have to procrastinate by working on that novel again instead of reading your brilliant writing.

I was asked yesterday to write a requiem for my upcoming high school reunion. (Why in the world did they ask me? Am I that glum a person?)


An Occasional Poet

I can’t speak for them, my deceased classmates,
or all the other young men and girls who
filled the echoing halls, who queued up for
busses, who negotiated the straits
of adolescent yearning, those who flew
to bleachers, playing fields, and stage, who bore
the purple and white and would roar. And all
the quiet ones––remember––they breathed and
ached and sang. Well ... no more. But, you can speak.
Come, tell their tales. Their too short lives recall
so that at least their youth might still shine––grand,
loving, bright as a falling star’s last streak.

Did you put a lot of work into the rhythm of this, kg? It flows wonderfully. And as good as the words and sentiment are, what really fires this (for me) is the way the internal rhymes and pauses work for the poem. Not just adding to it, but emphasising. Beautiful.

This one really hits home. My 30th reunion was a few years ago and even though it was great fun to see those people and tell those old stories the memorial table seemed to haunt us all.
