I don't want to start crazy rumours, but I think Cory Younts might be a permanent Old Crow now.

I would hate to hear that. I am a huge fan of his and would love to catch him with OCMS, but what he brings to Justin Townes Earle is irreplacable. Being that I'm equally a fan of both I would hate to see one of them affected in order to improve upon the other.

Though it would be nice to see JTE opening for OCMS again and Cory playing with both...

Well, I was just looking up details about the DRM show in Carrboro, and noticed that JTE was playing a couple days earlier .... and it is titled JTE: Dan Auerbach Tour w/ Jessica Lea Mayfield. Never heard of either one of these folks.

I have a hard time believing Cory is a permanent addition to OCMS. Maybe he was just filling the time while JTE was in Australia. Only time will tell I guess since JTE is back and touring here, and OCMS is touring, too.

Dan Auerbach is with the Black Keys and they and Jessica Lea Mayfield have opened for the Avetts in the past I'm pretty sure. I'll be seeing Jessica with the Avetts on Sunday. I'm also planning on going to the JTE/Auerbach/Mayfield show on the 9th.

I would also bet that Cory is not totally permanent, though I like him playing now and then with OCMS. I would be sad if he and JTE quit playing together--that combo is AMAZING!

From Justin's Twitter

JustinTEarle: Cory will no longer be playing with me. He's moved on to bigger and better things and we wish him luck.

I asked Traci Thomas earlier today if Cory was going to be in Chattanooga on Friday. She said no, and then told me Justin and Cory wouldn't be together any longer, and there would be something to post on the site later. I got an email with nothing but the quote above, and then it was on twitter and facebook.

Well. The bulletin JTE posted on Myspace sounds pretty definite... at least as far as Cory not touring with him.

I'm now VERY happy that I went to Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion this year, for I got to see them on stage one last time.

Ya, that does make me very sad. Hopefully it was a happy parting so maybe we will see them together again someday.

Didn't see anything on his 'band' facebook page... and then I realized he also has a personal FB page. He hasn't posted anything on the band-ish page since August 25th.

Just read the same thing in a myspace bulletin from JTE. It most definitely blows but I guess they'll both do great.

Anyone Have this?

This album is the D.O.T.B. attempt to capture multiple summers of porch swings, fiddles, campfires, dance floors,
thunder storms, cowboy hats, axes, hiking boots, guns and banjos and put it all into something that you can listen
to wherever you might be traveling. Everything was recorded live in two days, and hopefully will bring out the
sound of seven close friends having a good time. With a bit of luck, you’ll feel like you’re right there on the front
porch with us.

The Boys are: Cory Younts – banjo, mandolin, guitar, vocals; Ryan Crider – fiddle, mandolin, guitar, vocals;
Charles Pitcock – harmonica, vocals; Patrick Davis – kazoo, vocals; Brain Rappold – guitar, mandolin; Brain
Barnes – guitar; Carl Hofstrom – bass.

They don't give you a decent link to buy it...it's like a puzzle..but when you get through it, here's the page to buy it.

That CD is from when all those guys worked out at Philmont Scout Ranch. Worked with a couple of them myself and was taught my most of the others at the camp back home. Great guys and great mucisians, that CD is one of my favorites. Reminds of some great summers out in New Mexico. D.O.T.B. stand for Damned Old Tennesse Boys, we will just say those guys had a reputation on the ranch.

Also check out The Tobasco Donkeys, I would post a link but I dont have enough posts yet. They are another group of Philstaffers who are absolutely great musicians. Their second CD "Yarn Sessions" has a good versioin of Waggon Wheel on it. Dirty Larry said it was the way he sang it to his new born as a lulliby. "Yarn Sessions" is alot more orignal work, and "Sawin on the Strings" is alot more old timey sounding mining ect. All three of these CDs are probably among the most played albums on in my library, highly reccomended.

Nice to know the history behind it. I bought the CD last year at a JTE show. They also had "Who the F*ck is Cory Younts" shirts.

One of the grad students on my hall at work knows Cory and worked with him 'at the ranch'. Just found out today at a little holiday social we had. I had forgotten this story or else I would have asked him about philmont because I know a lot of fellas that have gone through there as staff. He said there was a group of them that were musicans and mentioned the TN Boys. Thanks to Bean, I was just able to listen to that CD last weekend. Just such a small world sometimes.....
