Every february for the last 5 years i've taken part in the RPM Challenge. Write and record an album in those 28 days.

You can listen to it here:
http://alonetone.com/gumbo/playlists/the-cats-moustache-rpm

something to make you laugh (Chicken!), or to cry (One Thing), or to dance around in your bones (almost everything else!).

As i've said before about these things, it's made in a community of all sorts of musicians, all sorts of genres, but youse guys are the ones who care about the music i care about so i'd appreciate any kind of feedback.

Well done, GumboStu. Well done.
"Take Yourself to Bed" is sublime.

One Thing has indeed made me cry. The tears are still trickling down my cheeks. I'm going to have to go back and listen to the rest when I'm not feeling so emotional... I like what I have heard though.

I love the album title and the artwork.

Thanks Stu... Chicken has lightened my spirits some. I don't know if the smile is from the clucking or the memories of your beautiful yard that the song invoked. Though, the only livestock I remember is a goat, no chickens.

very very good, man! Loved Willie McTell. Reminds me of Rory Gallagher's Pistol Slapper Blues who I think he might of covered from Blind Boy Fuller? Really liked One Thing too. Your singing had a Flaming Lips vibe to it. Very good sounding album. Mastered well. You record it at home?

recording speak warning Smile

thanks for the feedback rodge. Willie McTell came tumbling out early in the month and was just one take and sounds a bit loose to me - i can play it better but not sing at the same time sort of thing, so it's good to get that the loose playing doesn't bother you, because playing and singing at the same time gives a much more swinging result. I always meant to practice it and re-record it before the end of the month but you can spend a long time getting it right!

Good to hear that it sounds mastered as well, because it isn't. I hope that means i got it so that the songs kind of sound the same volume and nothing jumps out. I just mixed it and made sure the levels were not peaking. I used a Blue Yeti Condenser mic which arrived a few days into february (so i had to get used to it while i worked) so there's a good clear sound to begin with and a bit more input level to play with than i was used to with a dynamic mic. I am very impressed with that Yeti for €100 - it's my first condenser mic tho - so a step up from what i'm used to.

So yes recorded from my own sofa. Very Happy
