A lady from my church asked me to record a few songs to be played at her and her husband's funerals. I've tried putting them off for a while now; not that I'm superstitious or anything ... it's awfully morbid.
I took a break from working on them to record a wedding song cover -

Forever and a day - Stephin Merritt

Thanks!

whistle, it will be your music that will help make the funerals meaningful and alive. I love the idea!

Good stuff man.

I played Amazing Grace on the Fiddle at my brothers funeral in Oct. It was tough to get through it, but I think it was .... necessary and appropriate. I also played a song I wrote and other friends played too. It actually made the whole thing more peaceful and meaningful in a way. Almost like it turned the funeral into a wake.

I believe they wanted us to play live but our singer, a bear of a man, said he would not be able to make it through the songs. I agree that funerals with live music bring something that canned music doesn't. I sang "Amazing Grace" as a duet for a grandparent's wedding once and people really appreciated it. I think the more involved in the service that friends and family can be the more meaningful and personal it becomes.

I wish they came in that size. Cool

That's the container my fiddle bow came in. I noticed the resemblance and, it being my favorite candy bar and all, I had to make it. There was lots of scissoring of construction paper and giftwrap!

Chigger - I don't think they sell these in the States, or at least I couldn't find them anywhere online. But the folks on that link send abroad.... Might be wise to wait for winter though, otherwise you might get delivered a chocolate fondue rather than a chocolate bar Very Happy

Am off to Switzerland in a couple of weeks and I know a shop in my hometown that sells them. I'll take a picture of one and you can always photoshop yourself in Wink

I saw that! First I had to learn what currency SFr. was (Swiss franc) and the conversion, which comes to about $170, and that's without S/H.

*sigh*

Insane, isn't it??!! And I checked; they're asking for about the same again in postage :( Trying to fleece all the Swiss living abroad, craving food from home...

Still dear, but you can get it for $140 here, including shipping to the US...

Ok, I am so far away from that kind of money for a candy bar that I will never own one, EVER.

I do appreciate the offer of a good picture, Missy! That is the next best thing! And I agree with you- if it were free I'd have to wait and get one in winter, it's been 100 degrees F. here the last few days.

Yup, totally ridiculous money! And alas, I never won the lottery yesterday, else I might have shipped a couple of these your way ... but I guess a picture will have to do for now...

And please can you send some of that weather this way? It's been raining for days and feels like autumn! Thank you kindly Very Happy

Clip of us busking "Alabama High-Test"

This is a couple years old. We got kicked out of this spot one or two songs later. It was a neat location, felt like we were playing under the lights. I was still fresh on the fiddle, which explains the navel-gazing.

that's a pretty cool stage alright - shame about the background noise but it definitely rocks.

Two years old? Are you working up to going out again? Wink

Trying a hand at some originals ...

The Sun Also Rises

Not old-timey or anything, but it's acoustic and with lots of harmonies.

The Creeks - Highway 7/8

Written in (you guessed it) 7/8, lyrically it ended up being something of a Dylan homage. So we just kind of rolled with it for the video!

So we tried to write a song in the style of Old Crow. Consequently, it sounds nothing like them.

The Creeks - Summer Nights (Let's Go Dancing!)
