Thanks for the heads-up. I entered, but somebody else would probably have to go in my stead since the boys are playing a Thursday, blast them. |

Is anyone planning on attending FloydFest this year? Has anyone been in the past?
I'm thinking about heading down for at least Thursday's entertainment. I can't decide if I want to stay longer or not...
Does anyone know if there is a roped off VIP section in front of the stage? Or can anyone with a GA ticket get to the front? |

Partner in crime secured. Ticket purchased. We will be hitting the road bright and early... well bright and early according to me, probably not to most folk. |

What Bean said.
The only thing that would make me lose a whole day in my quest towards being the ain't-sucking-up-if-it's-sincere best intern ever at my very favorite magazine is an adventure with a Crocaine addict to see the Old Crows.
In old Virginia, no less. |

So you go on at the Nation. Good for you.
Now you ladies must find a way to get out here for HSB.
You must experience this thing. |

"So you go on at the Nation."
I know you're kidding but...
Ahem. Yes, this will be marvelous. And the chances of me attending HSB are fairly good, since I want to go out to CA in the Fall anyway (Libertopia in San Diego calls at the end of October.). Old Crow, Ralph Stanely, for free, yes?
Maybe I will see you there, Rod. |

I wish, but a cross country trip while school is in session is pretty much out of the question for me. |

A kidnapping it is, then. Of you, not the kids.
We'll discus it tomorrow.

If you kidnap me that particular weekend, you would have bridezilla and her mate hot on your tails. |

Ten+ hours of driving. Two hours of Old Crow. Totally worth it... even with the drunk girl screaming in my ear after she tried to push me out of my spot.
Time to get some sleep now... |

Chigger, the worst part was how she sullied the good name of the Southern accent.
She sounded like nails on a chalkboard. Nails that said "yeah baby." |

They were sounding mighty good, too. Ketch and Willie sang real purty. Hearing Willie sing "Poor Man" and "Take em Away" was kick-ass. Which is one reason I hated that tragically drunk chick. I was on such a music and life high, that when first a tall dude that Bean did NOT take shit from shoved in front of us and then the crazy drunk chick, it felt like being kick down a flight of stares. It's like somebody interrupting a great book or turning off your favorite song in the middle, but worse.
I wish a brutal hangover on that girl. And some education to follow.
I also did not enjoy the nasty, power-tripping security guy afterwards, who grabbed some girl's ass. Sir, Old Crow is worth a lot, but not worth acknowledging your existence.
But uh, Ketch had his little porch session that Bean and I made it just time for. So at some point I was burning my bare legs on rocks, I was covered in spiders and dirt and many yellow bees were menacing. Ketch was doing his poetical ramblings, whooping like all Virginians apparently know how to do, playing the scratchy fiddle. He brought Willie out and they played a little together. Hearing those two sing and play when it was that sparse and clear was just stunning. And first seeing Arthur Grimes flat-footing was kick-ass, too. I had to stop taking pictures and just feel it.
Willie gives this Yankee some pride. Even if his influence is pure Southern, he managed to get that voice from North of the Mason-Dixon line. We're not hopeless!
Also. Last night I met one of my favorite journalists who is generally fighting the good fight (he used to work for the place I'm interning, but left before I arrived.) He recently moved to Nashville, but we talked about the Old Crow. He's seen them four times. I told him he needs to see any and all future NYE shows.
The Old Crow, is there anything they can't do?
Sitting in the car with Bean on our Southern adventure, I was thinking that, as I thought it so many times last New Year. One band made all this happen. People who moralize and panic over the internet making us all disconnected, bollocks. One amazing band and one little message board has given me some of the best times that I can remember. |

kg... that video is an assault on the ears.
Gumbo... it was an amazing set. Eight new songs and a great selection of non-new songs. The only thing that would have made it better would have been the addition of Genevieve.
Lucy... Thank you for joining me! YEAH BABY!
I was ready to get in a physical fight with the dude if necessary. The girl, my kill 'em with kindness tactic worked well enough for me. By the middle of the show she was calling me a sweetheart. Maybe she was just to drunk to remember that we almost got in a fight a mere hour earlier. I thinks the serenity that I found in my view of the stage helped drown her out.
The boys were on fire. It was so nice to see them in their hard-earned and rightful position of headliners. It was great to hear and feel the crowd so into them... and once she stopped trying to sing every lyric in her out of tune drunk slur, drunk girl was almost entertaining. I just wish her wildly flailing hands and arms weren't in so many of my pictures. Can't fault someone for wanting to dance at an Old Crow Show though... |

The pictures that you haven't seen yet, because I need some time to sort through them and find the good ones...sans drunk girl's arm. |
