The Welcome Table
featuring Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show, Dave Barnes, Buddy Green, The Nashville Choir and more!
On Sunday evening, November 20, Tokens hosts its second benefit for Room in the Inn at the Ryman. Join us on this special evening to start your Thanksgiving week, as the Nashville Choir returns along with other special guests. All proceeds beyond production expenses will be contributed to Room in the Inn, an ecumenical and holistic ministry to Nashville’s homeless.
Tokens has been described as “Garrison Keillor meets Bill Moyers; Thomas Merton—Catholic monk, social activist, and writer—goes to the Grand Ol’ Opry; or Mark Twain meets God, and likes the God he meets.” Engaging world-class musicians, vocalists, and authors in a provocative, engaging, and thoughtful format, what Tokens dishes up is like "a ’grass-kicking shred fest," says the Nashville Scene. “A virtuoso ensemble,” says the Tennessean. Tokens is “one of today’s finest exemplars of exploration around the intersections of theology and the performing arts” according to the Englewood Review of Books. The magazine Sojourners opined that “if A Prairie Home Companion ever moved South and got religion—or at least went to divinity school—it might look a lot like TOKENS.” And Shane Claiborne, best-selling author and recent participant in Tokens described the experience as “dazzling. magical. better than CATS . . . . creating beauty and mischief.”
Lee C. Camp, host and creator, insists that Tokens is “better experienced than described.” |

I hear tell that they’re going to sing about six songs including “I Hear Them All”, “Take ‘em Away” and “James River Blues” |

I'm thinking a Flukie and maybe a Heart up in the Sky is in your future as well... At least there's hope! And, probably a ubiquitous Wagon Wheel too. |

So all of tucky and I's hollering for James River Blues on NYE was for naught, but now they shall play it?
Man, if the dang Megabus went to Nashville instead of Knoxville, I'd go. I swear I could pull it off... |

I've love to hear James River Blues with Critter!
I am not one to holler loudly for songs, that's how desperate were those times. |

Lucy. If this thing were today instead of tomorrow, I would have picked you up after school yesterday and swept you away to Nashville. |

Good to know, Bean, good to know. Yeah, Sunday was also the final straw in preventing any wild adventures on my part. Saturday, you fools, Saturday is the day for such things! |

I didn't get to listen to it completely. I had da flu and a crappy internet connection, haha
But, it was nice to hear Critter again. As far as I can remember they played in no particular order
Kids On The Other Side Of The Street (New song, reminded me of 'Send No Angels')
Union Maid
Canned Biscuits (?) (campy song with the choir to the tune of Mozart or something... blame the Nyquil, haha)
Take 'em Away
James River Blues
River of Jericho (? gospel tune, one of the best of the night)
I Hear Them All
uh, maybe one more song in there. All in All a good listen for a good cause. Mike Farris and crew did great as well. |
