This definitely was a true 'Ketch & Friends' show rather than a half of Old Crow show. It was more of a mature show. More high brow and about listening than getting rowdy. It felt more like a great night at The Bluebird Cafe rather than a Station Inn show. Laid back and mellow.

After that Anal Beatles show, I'm ready for some more of this.

"There's rowdy then there's a little too rowdy" (quote from Janette Carter when I asked her if they'd ever have Old Crow at the Carter Family Fold, circa 2003)

Yea, they's opening some shops over there. Thing is... Cumberland River is getting pretty high again.

Dolly Parton is opening a Water & Snow Park across Opry Mills Mall. Know what they are gonna call it?

Man, if there was one song I could ever request of Ketch to play, other than Big Sciota, it would be Bob Dylan's Billy Theme 1

first off, last night was great! the entire show featured ketch of course, as well as cory and morgan. then fats kaplin sat in on a couple of fiddle tunes during the main set and then second song of the encore.

the crowd was great! normally is at the station inn, there was one drunk guy in the back who started to get a bit loud, but the gal who was working the door went over and said something to him and he shut up really quick. im sure it went something like this "im gonna toss your ass outta here if you don’t pipe down" at least that’s how it went in my head. Laughing

the setlist was killer, some old tune surprises, new tunes, and some great covers that chances are will never be played again. i would rank this ketch and friends show above the first ketch and friends show, just due to the fact that this one was more OCMS related. there weren’t near as many guests at this show, but the crowd was really into it! im already looking forward to the next ketch and friends show on the 29th of the month. i can imagine ketch will make many a mention to the fact that it’s the 29th day of february in this leap year, as he talked a lot about valentines day last night. if you live around the area and hadn’t made it down to the station inn i strongly suggest you get down here on the 29th! by the way, i think i saw ole "caveman" in there last night... "chigger" you better make that next show man!

i hardly ever keep the setlist as most of the time someone im with is keeping it but last night i thought i would try and keep up with it so ill share mine even though rodge shared his.

i tried to make note of some of the bantar that ketch would talk about between songs. it may not all make a lot of sense but ill try and capture most of what i recall, just a little something different than the standard setlists we are all used to...

ketch and friends
the station inn - nashville tn
2-14-2012

set 1
cupid draw back your bow

fiddle tune (died when i was young)

"ketch bantar - a nashville rant about living in the gulch versus east nashville, and paying 400,000 for a condo in a highrise building"

i hear them all w/ "ketch telling a story during the song about a boy who got pulled over after having a little too much to drink and telling the policeman about having just played the ryman"

"ketch bantar - buying a dime bag after church, while riding a bike around downtown, the dealer happend to be the greatest hustler of all, and he was not a male, but a female"

greatest hustler of all

"ketch bantar - the golden coral chocolate waterfall"

streets of nashville tn

"ketch bantar - did yall just hear that? that guy just yelled out AWESOME with two syllables... man that AWEEESSSOOOMMMEEE!!!, which leads into a story about how ladies your date went to mtsu down in murfreesboro and how he may be working at the bank, but he oh how he loves ya honey"

oh my love, tell her to come back home

"ketch bantar - cory's mom is here, and she makes the best cupcakes" (not sure if his mom was there, but i know his dad was cause monica introduced me to him. nice guy!)

love by moonlight

"ketch bantar - paintings of dogs down on dickerson road with halos around their heads"

highway halo

"ketch bantar - talking bout the bradford pear tree crops down in mcminnville tn, down there in warren county"

levi w/ a short intro about who levi was and how they heard about him on npr

dearly departed friend

"ketch bantar - were sliding it all up in the gulch tonight boys"

brave boys rocking in the weary land > fiddle jam > brave boys

set 2
shoulda known better, with a girl like you (rodge said love me do, which could be the case but thats not how i heard it)

"ketch bantar - if yall got something yall wanna hear just go on and shout something out" (i think ketch instantly thought twice about why he said that as a few requests were shouted out over the next minute or two)

james river blues (cory on lead vocal)

done wrong blues, won't do wrong no more

"ketch bantar - benita the post lady is having her a valentines date down there at the Sonic on trinity lane"

babe its been a whirlwind (new tune)

fast fiddle tune #1 w/ fats kaplin

"ketch bantar - how about one more fiddle tune? come on up here and clog on stage if ya know how" (no one took him up on this offer)

fast fiddle tune #2 w/ fats kaplin

take em' away

i wanna dance with somebody (whitney houston cover) w/ "ketch bantar during the song - god bless ya whitney houston, she was ya first crush on a black girl, i love ya whitney, you'll be missed, your the real thing honey" (the entire station inn jumped in for a sing along with this tune, one of those moments that you really had to be there, the cover took everyone by surprise but it was simply amazing!)

my good gal w/ ketch and cory instrumental jam

"ketch bantar - ladies he got ya a valentines day gift that'll change your life, he bought it at the rivergate mall"

new virginia creeper

cocaine habit (cory lead vocal and sang this line "if ya dont believe cocaine is good, ask karl rove and tiger woods)

wagon wheel

encore

"ketch bantar - flip the breaker darlin"

power of love (huey lewis and the news cover) (this was a great cover one of many good covers on the night, the guys really got into this one!)

i will always love you (dolly parton/whitney houston cover) w/ fats kaplin on the fiddle (sounded just like a bluegrass version of whitney's version, really great way to end the show)

* one side note, a friend told me that fats kaplin's wife/girlfriend (wife if i recall correctly) was the gal in the OCMS wagon wheel video

Good memory, dude

I think Ketch's minute John Prine-esque mustache and soul patch put him in rare form. Pretty funny stuff.

Instead of the old way Ketch used to make folks feel good about which county they came from he was busting everyone's chops for it.

Fun show. I liked this show much better than the last Ketch & Friends. Livelier and more energy. Everyone knew what they were doing and only one real special guest. Heck, I might have liked it even more than the Ketch & Critter show. My gal thought the same thing. It was close.

Always good to see everyone out there. Bo, Caveman, ol Tommy, Monica, Norm, Station Inn Ladies, and last but not least... ol' Spuds McKenzie.

Here's my full vid of 'I Want To Dance With Somebody'.

I love that vid that you posted of I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Rodge!! I loved how everyone was singing along.....

And I am really glad to hear that Ketch told the story about Leevi.... it is a good one. Those that want more info...... there is a whole thread about it around here somewhere. Ketch I I spoke about it after a show at the Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte. I heard that same story on NPR - so when I heard that song I about flipped!

Bo, I gotta say- Ketch might not wanna dish out too much on folks' hometowns, or he might get a taste of some "smartass yankee bashin'..." Laughing
Can I get some backup up in here, Tucky? Laughing
