Alright, I had to look just because you said not to. Agreed! My eyes were watering just trying to piece the words together. |

Ha, I joked on the board earlier today after hearing Yesterday's " I want to Dance with Somebody" That they should have done " IIIII E IIII will always Love UUUU ew ew", Both performances from Valentines day, suprisingly weren't half Bad, but Yesterday's "I want to Dance with Somebody" wasn't hardly strictly good.
But do you ever get the feeling that Willie could have talked him out of that? and it would be for the best... |

Dang, I completely forgot about last nights show and I was planning on going. Old age is killing my mind and body.
How was Pokey's performance?
How was the line to get in? |

well about 3 songs in rodge and i realized that neither of us were keeping the setlist for this one, so he ended up taken on that job so thats for that dude!
i will try and do some fill in the blanks and add a bit of insight on the show.
first off the show sold out, and pokey and the boys put on one heck of an opening set! that was my first time seeing them and i was def impressed!
most of the ketch & friends set had a real blues feel to it, not so much bluegrass as the past few shows. but the change was nice and thanks to rodge we had some killer seats right in front of the stage (ill post a few pics a little later on)
rodges setlist looks pretty spot on from what i recall, but that "frankie" wasnt what i know as the frankie and johnny version that OCMS used to play. it had a different feel to it, and if i recall gilbert sang that one.
really enjoyed kevins (new?) tune "prision walls" it had his typical fun feel but the lyrics were great! really up beat and i can see it catching on for sure!
at the begining of set 2 the boys did a couple of instrumental tunes and asked if anyone in the crowd wanted to come up and dance on stage, nobody did, BUT this older guy from knoxville stepped up on stage and said i play the "jews harp" so ketch invited him up to play a couple of tunes and then said at the end of the tune, "youll have to come up and play that on wagon wheel a little later in the night, man i dont think we have had a jews harp on that tune before" it was funny to watch this guy jamming on his jews harp, and you could tell it made the "ole lumber jacks" night! ole lumber jack is what ketch called him all night...
i really enjoyed the encore tune, had never heard that one before. but it gave everyone a chance to take a lead part and do a little dancing. anyone know who wrote that "momma dont allow no" ???
im sure ill come up with some more details once i get my thoughts together a bit. i only got like 4 hours of sleep last night, but it was def worth feeling a lil tired today! |

Momma Don't Allow (No Music Played 'Round Here)... I had to holler when I saw that! I remember them playing it once... long long time ago. I most often hear the Doc Watson version of that song... but it is an old traditional tune. Or the version I am thinking about goes like....
Mama don't allow no fiddle playing around here
Mama don't allow no fiddle playing around here
Well we don't care what mama don't allow we gonna play the fiddle anyhow Mama don't allow no fiddle playing around here |

you got it! thanks for the heads up kitty. it was neat to see them do that cause they all got a "mama dont allow no ______ playing round here... had some serious energy thats for sure!
by the way not sure if it was really mentioned or not but one of the "friends" last night was jim lauderdale... bad ass suit and all... |

Yea, I'm dead tired, too. Had to be at work an hour and a half earlier than I usually have to today. I wish we could have gone to the Wednesday Night Old Time Jam afterwards to party with everyone. If it was any other day of the year, I woulda done it.
Tons of folks were in the crowd watching and jamming as well. Woody Pines & Zach, Tommy Olivio from Bawn in the Mash, Whiskey Bent Valley Boys. All good people.
Pokey and his band killed it! It was good to hear Ketch and crew throwing down some old oldies and some new new ones. Really loose and laid back stuff. It was a good time. I'll post more about it later. |

Sorry I couldn't make it. Would've loved to have been there, but work has got me by the short hairs right now, steppin' & fetchin' to beat the band...
I'm dead tired, and DIDN"T go to the show. |

Just read your review of last December's show Rodge.
Gotta say it breaks my heart to see they played "Evening Sun" without Willie. While I can understand they're trying to play some of his songs without him there, I just don't think I could listen to that one or "Next Go Round" without him. There's so much in the lyricism and the way Willie sings those.... I love the way Ketch can hook onto a melody but I dunno about those 2... |

Pokey and Old Crow! AHHHHH!
How amazing would an album be between these guys?!
Someday soon I hope! Could this be a burgeoning relationship?
I'd love to hear the melding of a real Mississip River band and Old Crow, wouldn't you guys? |

Heck yea, Fellaz! Always a good time!
Whiskeyband, Think you may already may have your wish. They said Pokey&TSCT had been in town for the last four days recording an album. Morgan engineering. Ketch producing.
I'd bet they sit in on one or two. |
