I would love to be there too but midweek shows are hard for me to get to. If I were to attend what time would y'all think the line would form? 5 or 6 o'clock?

If I was a betting man, I would say there is a VERY good chance of Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings being there.

My favorite parts of the night. Hearing "Little Sadie" live (Gill sang lead)

Mississippi Saturday Night (Gill sang lead) glad this one isnt being cut from any live shows, this song is awesome!

And that Ketch/Dierks "What was I thinking" / Alabama High Test (mash up) was sweet! They each sang each others lyrics for the most part. Dierks said before they played it "are we really going to do this? this is going to be a train wreck"

great times! love the music city!

Phil Madeira? This guy?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Madeira

He's awesome. He was at HSB with Emmy Lou.
I've seen him a couple of times with Buddy Miller.
He makes playing great look easy.

Great Time! It was good to meet Caveman and hangout with Rodge and Bo again.
It was really neat to get to hear those songs in such a small venue. i thought those days were over.

When Dierks started into that "white tank top" song I about threw up, but when they mashed it up with Alabama high test it sounded pretty good. I hope somebody got that on youtube somewhere.

One of my favorite versions of Caroline that Ive heard. And for hearing something the first time I loved "Streets of Nashville".

The night was so good that I seriously forgot there was no Critter until I just read Rodger's review.

Hope to do this again soon guys.

LIVE ACTION!!!!

Lowlights:
Waiting in line in the cold to get in for 30 minutes with 25 other people and No one at all showing up after that until 15 minutes before the show. It never did sell out.

Noticing the friends that were not there, mainly Willie Watson and knowing he is was in California performing on a different stage at the very same time at the Watkins Family Hour.

Highlights:
'Streets of Nashville'
New song talking about playing and busking the Streets of Nashville. Very nostalgic song talking about the good ol days when being just a stringband playing for tips was a lot simpler.

'News from the Frontlines'.
Ketch opened a letter from a supposed US Soldier stationed in the Middle East. Read it in very Garrison Keller fashion. It mentioned how crappy the situation was over there but how he (soldier) was handling it like a champ. Mentioned how he watches Fox News but Ketch skipped over that part which got a good laugh. He thanked OCMS for the stuff they sent him and told him to keep playing those good good tunes. If I was a betting man, I'd say Ketch wrote this letter as a social commentary. The man has been known to tell a fib or two while on stage for entertainment's sake. Good stuff.

'Caroline' with alt lyrics.
Much more storytelling/spoken word than recorded versions, unreleased or otherwise. He spoke much more about his sister, which the song has always been about.

'I'm Gonna Live Forever Now (Billy Joe Shaver cover)'
It was really good to hear Kevin sing this one. It seemed like Ketch had to encourage Kevin to sing it, but Ketch knew it would do Kevin some good to do it. Uplifting way to end the set.

Ketch singing 'Evening Sun Go Down'. It was bitter sweet. Ketch may have had Willie on his mind while singing it, I'm not for sure. It was a somber one. Really missed hearing Willie's voice on this one.

'Little Sadie'
Great to hear this old traditional dark number again. Gill definitely did it justice with his gravely vocals. Some nice fiddle work by Ketch as well.

'What Was I Thinking?/Alabama High Test'
mashup between Dierks Bentley and Ketch. Both traded each other's lyrics, improvising, and sort of creating it on the fly. It was the moment of the night. They commented that it might be a train wreck but man, it really worked. They should record it, no joke. I've never really listened to Dierks or really ever wanted to but I definitely respect him. Anyone that hangs out at the Station Inn more than the owner, JT, is aces in my book.

'Wagon Wheel'
with everyone including the opening band, The Whiskey Shivers. Ol Hortie, guitar player for WS, eyes were welling up with tears when they all were on stage singing Wagon Wheel. You could tell it meant a ton to him and to have his mom there. I'm sure was great. When we talked to him after the show, he said he was from Middlesboro, KY which is right next to Cumberland Gap and also Harlan, KY (where I lived for a good part of my childhood).

It was really really great to see that excitement on his face and to know exactly where he comes from. One of those middle of nowhere towns where all you do is daydream about getting out of there. Where you are pretty sure you never will make it out just like everyone else you know in that small town.

He was walking around in a daze after the show saying that "I was playing that alone in my bedroom in Middlesboro just a few years ago." He kinda had to stop talking cause he was feeling himself getting choked up.

I told him, "Congratulations." He asked, "For what?" me, "For making it out of Middlesboro, man."

I'm pulling for those guys. It goes to show you how much power 'Wagon Wheel' still has.

Closing Comments
This definitely was a true 'Ketch & Friends' show rather than a half of Old Crow show. It was more of a mature show. More high brow and about listening than getting rowdy. It felt more like a great night at The Bluebird Cafe rather than a Station Inn show. Laid back and mellow.

It made me want to see a true Old Crow Medicine Show concert all the more which we may never see again. Ketch and Critter have a reunion tour coming up though which is very exciting but man... I miss those old days of Old Crow on the 'Streets of Nashville.'

Really nice review there Rodge. My highlight is just the plain fact I was almost seeing old crow at the station inn. I thought the days of seeing em there were long gone.
