Working 4PM to midnight Monday through Friday sucks! I'm working on changing this schedule. I need more shows and less work. Sad

I guess I'll just wear my Crowcaine shirt at home tonight. I did get to see the Smashing Pumpkins last weekend, so OCMS this weekend would be some major overload.

So, I went to the show last night, and it was rocking as usual. However, they opened with this http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marching_Through_Georgia... a Union marching song, celebrating Sherman's March to the Sea. It was a great performance and a nice tune. Just seemed kinda inappropriate to me. I'm pretty sure most of the crowd was oblivious to the lyrics, but it kinda bugged me.

Very good show.

I was stuck in the will call line for the first five songs, which sucked. We got down their early but parking was such a freaking mess and all the signage were very confusing.

Anyways, it was great to see the Boys mixing it up a bit and adding some surprises with Marching Through Georgia and the Tom Petty cover with Critter on vocals. The crowd was singing along real loud with it.

Reminds me of those 'Walk of Life' days with Crit on his red accordion. Good stuff.

It seems like Chance is getting more acclimated and starting to own his vocal/instrument solos more. Keep it going and let it loose, man!

It was crazy to see Old Crow in such a big amphitheater. Same for the Avett Brothers. It's A LOT different than seeing them both on the same stage in Dickson, TN back in 2005 with about 80 people.

All in all it was a really great night except them not playing a song together. That was a pretty disappointing. Man, if they would have played a song or two together, I'd probably be on craigslist looking for Red Rocks tix. Ah well. The Avett Brothers seemed sincere with their "It was an honor to share the stage with Old Crow Medicine Show."

It was well executed. My thoughts:
- I agree whole-heartily with your Chance comments, he's really getting comfy up there.
- I too was disappointed by no sit ins.
- Great to see Cory back, he adds another layer.
- The jam after Habit was incredible, all members standing on the edge of the stage.
- The run from Bootleggers > Sat night was a highlight. They've really got these newer tunes dialed in now.
- Wagon Wheel - there are worse things that 1,000s of beautiful young ladies in sundresses and cowboy boots signing every word to one of Ketch's songs.
- Is Ketch on hunger strike, the boy looked like he needed some fatback.
- American Girl was fun and held the large crowd.
- It was weird seeing all those folks there.
- Marching Through Georgia - they did this in Savannah, rubbed me the wrong way. Nice little number but singing about the burning down of GA by Yankees is not always welcome in GA. Perhaps there's some inside joke to this.
Next stop for me is Jackson Hole.

I can appreciate Sherman for his attitude there at the end. But the man should still twist in Hell.

Oh, don't mistake me. Only his desire in April of 65 for status quo antebellum and only an appreciation. There's no forgiveness for the creature.

I said I would post more when I recovered from traveling. I guess that recoery has happened, but now school is in session...man, teaching sixth grade is a bear, I'm exhausted by lunch time. But, no matter, it is time to put my experience into words. When I think about words to describe that night I still get tongue-tied and all I can come up with is a string something like this:

Wow! Dreamlike. Amazing! Dreamlike. Awesome! Dreamlike. Crazy! Dreamlike.

I could continue in the same fashion. But, I won't.

The moment the boys took the stage a couple tears trickled down my cheeks and my goofy grin had to stretch past my ears. I'm not a much of a cryer in general. I didn't even cry at my grandmother's funeral last week, but the boys belting it out on the stage at Red Rocks brought me to tears. I will admit to crying at one other concert in my life, I was 15.

I can't really say much about the show because I was floating a few feet of the ground the entire time. If I sit quiet and still I can still hear the sound of Ketch's voice ringing through the Rocky Mountain air. Growing up I always wanted to see John Denver at Red Rocks, then the desire switched to U2, as much as I love both those artists, I'm so glad that my first Red Rock experience was OCMS.

Everyone around us was super cool and we all had a blast. It was great to see how many people were there to see OCMS, as a viewable portion of the crowd left after their set (and didn't return to their seats for the Avetts). I totally understand, but the missed a pretty rockin' show, as the Avetts were fully on. I think my favorite thing was that the majority of the crowd was up on their feet, dancing and singing to all the songs, not just Wagon Wheel. I'm pretty sure no one in the crowd would have minded if the boys played a few more tunes.

Somewhere in my phone and on my Facebook page there is a setlist. I can't dig it up if y'all want it...

This is what you all need to remember though, IF OLD CROW EVER PLAY RED ROCKS AGAIN MAKE THE TREK!!!
