how in the hell do you get a hold of one of these?
are you supposed to make'em yourself, or does somebody make them? |

The clue is in how you look for one of these. Lots of websites sell them and you can usually pick them up on ebay as well, I got mine from ebay. You will usually find them listed as either guitar banjo, or six-string banjo, and occasionally banjitar, but never guitjo. Not sure why. Anyway, get one, they're great and for guitarists, the perfect lazy way to play the banjo as you don't have to learn another instrument! |

Was in a guitar store the other day and played one made by the Deering company. Played it for a little while, nice tone but being a guitar player and a banjo player I've always been a little weirded out by them. Anyways, check out the Deering models at www.deeringbanjos.com , from the homepage click on "6 and 12 string banjos" in the upper right hand. Would be intrested to try the 12 string. |

i love/hate my banjitar. i love that i can flatpick that sucker to no tomorrow. i hate that it loses its tune after some heavy pickin.
i bought it from an old timer: found it in the paper. i showed up at his house and we talked for hours. he had some great stories to tell. i wonder what he is up to these days?
mine is a no name and i paid $120 for it. i like to make scratchin sounds on the skin as i pick it.....it sounds really cool |

Jahnee,
A few simple things you can do to fix that problem of it going out of tune while picking it. Some of those old banjos just need a little maintence, a few things that I have done before that have helped include:
-Having new strings is essential (obviously)
-Makeing sure that tuning pegs are all tight enough to hold the tension of the strings.
-Puting a little graphite powder in the grooves in the nut and/or bridge
-Replacing the nut, or possible the bridge
Hope that helps out a little, happy pickin' |
